The recent exclusion of the "Making of a Hero" documentary from another home release of Batman (1989) got me thinking. If you don't know what "Making of a Hero" - it was a documentary from 1989 by Mindseye Films with loads of great behind the scenes footage.
What have I been thinking? Well...fan consensus is that maybe Warner Bros doesn't have the footage or that rights issues prevent it from being included. But what if there is another reason. What if WB have a great quality version of the documentary and are just sitting on it?!
Madness you say? I just looked at www.bbfc.co.uk. The British Board of Film Classification are a body that review and grade film material for different age groups. Anything that is to be shown in cinema or released on home video in the UK has to go through them...amd they keep a record of it on their site.
On the 5th of August 2005, Warner Bros submitted "Batman: The Making of a Hero" to the BBFC for inclusion on the Special Edition DVDs. You can see the record here http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/batman-making-hero-2005
So what happened?
The whole thing is even stranger when you consider the recent ZAVVI situation regarding the doc being listed as a feature when it wasn't (information sent to ZAVVI by WB). The Zavvi 25th Anniversary Blu-ray even states "Includes All-New Bonus Features" despite only having a singular feature listed as "All-New".
Hopefully we'll see it (and more) very soon.
