Some people! ::)
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

i know this is short but its like the mid-point of the story. the action picks up after this.

chapter 10

"idiot. idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot. you're an idiot. a complete, total idiot."

selina continued hurling a barrage of insults at her reflection in her bedroom mirror, stopping only to hit herself in the forehead with the palm of her hand. she had thought about everything she had just said and done in chip's apartment and now she felt like, well, an idiot.

"how could you be so DUMB?!" she cried, throwing her arms into the air and letting them fall to her sides. finally she plopped down onto the bed and put her face in her hands. "bruce will kill me when he finds out. i know it. why did i have to be so STUPID?!" she threw herself backwards on the bed, flat on her back, and stared upwards. "what was i thinking? oh, thats right, i wasn't thinking because i'm an IDIOT!"

selina was so immersed in her verbal self-mutilation that she nearly jumped through the ceiling when her telephone rang. once she'd regained a little bit of composure, she grabbed at her phone. juggling it for a moment, she finally got it to her ear. "he-hello? this is selina kyle," she stammered.

"hi, selina, it's maggie burton."

selina's heart lept into her throat. "oh...my...god." she thought.

"um...hi maggie! what can i do for you?" "well, i'm not sure if you read the newspaper, but i'm on a book tour with a friend of mine. have you ever read any of claire mitchell's work?" "no, can't say that i have," selina replied. she covered the mouthpiece and sighed deeply, relieved at least temporarily that she didn't have to face the music for her encounter with chip.

"well anyway," maggie continued, "we're going to be holding an event at the gotham museum thursday evening and i was just wondering if you would have any interest in attending." selina was a bit stunned. "you...you want ME there? why?" "well i think it would be good for the city to see that even if our husbands-to-be can't get along, we can. plus i would like to meet you and since this is my last event before i give birth, i thought we should do it while we can. especially since we haven't been properly introduced!"

"that would be...um, uh...i'll get back to you," selina finally replied. "okay, hope to see you there! ta-ta for now!" "um, ta-ta, goodbye."

selina stared at the phone for a moment after hanging up. she then turned back over on her bed. "maybe i should go," she said out loud. "she seems sweet enough. of course it won't look good for bruce when his girlfriend gets her ass kicked by a pregnant girl for getting frisky with her fiancee, but oh well."

selina's thoughts then dwelled on one specific phrase maggie had used. "our husbands-to-be." she couldn't help but giggle sheepishly at the thought of exchanging vows with bruce.

Eh, better late than never.   ::)  ;D

Anyways, I've enjoyed the chapters so far to be perfectly honest. Reading about the fates of the Riddler, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze was pretty fun to read actually. And I can certainly see all of those scenarios played out. Especially the whole torturing bit with Isely/Fries. All in all, good stuff.

The whole Bruce/Selina confrontation about killing was interesting as well. To me, Max Shreck being worse than the likes of Jack Napier, or Oswald Cobblepot can be argued, but in Selina's mind, I'm sure she would consider Max to be worse as she actually had dealt with him. Unlike the other's mentioned. Even if their schemes were much more publicly known, and blatant than Max's EVER were.

Selina's seduction, and apparently nearly successfully attempting to murder Chip in similar fashion to his father was another interesting part of the so-far-completed story as well.

And the on again, off again relationship between Bruce and Selina is certainly building up to a climax so to speak.  ;D  Color me interested in seeing where it goes in this story.
"Imagination is a quality given a man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humour was provided to console him for what he is."

she wasn't going to murder chip. she was going to scare him. and i mean really scare, not a penguin "she sure looked scared" scare lol.

Ah, I figured 'old habits die hard' in that case.  ;)

But admittedly, I've watched "Basic Instinct" recently, so maybe that whole seduction/murder play hasnt left my thoughts completely.  ;D

i really should see that movie.

You should.

It was certainly another controversial movie to come out of 1992. Much like Batman Returns;)

sounds like i could use it for some ideas...
