Batman does carry his grappling gun everywhere he goes he could of attempted to shoot it down to catch on to her, to me he just stood there helpless, I picture Batman atleast making an attempt to save her, rather than just stand there with his mouth wide open watching her plummet to her death.

I have given a name to my pain, and it is BATMAN.

I do have a couple of questions about her part in the film.  Near the start of the film, at the tree-lighting ceremony, it's apparent that the Ice Princess has two fairly large minders/ bodyguards in tow.  They remove her fur coat before she presses the switch, and appear to shield her during the Organ Grinder's gattling-gun assault on the podium.  So where were the bodyguards when The Penguin marched into her dressing room and kidnapped her?

Also, in the original screenplay and novelisation, the princess is depicted as pushing an old lady to the ground whilst she tries to get away from the Red Triangle Circus Gang during their raid on the tree ceremony.  Does anybody know whether this was filmed?  It's a pity that it wasn't left in the film, since it would have added a note of poetic justice to the princess's fate (not that she deserved to die, but it would have made her character less sympathetic - as it is, she seems to be 'punished' merely for being a bimbo).

the penguin prolly paid them off. men.  ::)

yea the punished for beng a bimbo is why i hate the scene. if she had some mean characteristic then i guess i wouldn't but she was innocent. why couldn't they have kidnapped the mayor and dropped him off the roof? that would have been a better framing.

I doubt the Penguin paid the bodyguards off.  They had a job to do, and were probably getting pretty well paid for guarding the princess, bearing in mind she was a big-shot celebrity and everything.  Maybe it was just an oversight - but a pretty stupid one in view of the Red Triangle Gang's recent attack on the city.

What did the mayor do to deserve that fate?  He wasn't a bad guy either, was he?  I'm guessing that the Penguin decided to kidnap the Ice Princess because she was one of the most popular celebrities in Gotham (whilst the mayor's own popularity was declining at that point), and her abduction would therefore create the maximum chaos and uproar amongst the citizens.  Perhaps she came from a rich family and her kidnapping would therefore guarantee the type of media attention and police operation it garnered.

I do think the princess was originally intended to come across as a bit mean, as well as stupid.  You can see a hint of this in the totally self-absorbed way she behaved in her dressing room, not knowing who the Penguin was and later dismissing him as an 'ugly bird-man', as if he is defined by his unappealing physical characteristics and not his nasty personality.  If she had been given more screen-time, she may have displayed more of these negative characteristics.
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

if someone that looked like him kidnapped me, i'd call him an ugly bird man with stinky fish breath too.

;D  Good point!  Although I still think that line was meant to illustrate how shallow and dim-witted the princess was.  I mean, why didn't she know he was Oswald Cobblepot/ The Penguin, and not just some ugly bird-man with fish breath?

So no, "Coolest role model a young person could have!" compliment for Penguin, Catwoman?

Apparently, you really wouldnt touch him to scratch him.  :D

But when you think about it, it was sort of her fault that she fell. Batman told her not to look down, so she could've taken his advice & walked or jumped back to safety before the Penguin came, like Gobbs said. But she just stood there like a dummy.

And remember, he was wearing a batsuit, & judging by the way the Ice Princess was screaming when those bats were flying around her, I take it that she would've been frightened by him & would've forgotten that she could fall & die just by trying to steer away from him.

Besides, without her death, the tragic irony/poetic justice wouldn't be complete. :)
