Has anyone ever heard that an alternative ending was shot for Batman where the Joker lived?

Can't recall at the moment, although I have read articles that said that he was supposed to return later on (I think it was either Returns or what could have been Burton's third Bat film).

there was never an ending filmed where he lived....when Jack negotiated his deal to do the movie he said he'd wanted no part of any sequels which explains why they killed him at the end and why his back end of the movie was so huge... remember the WB didn't really know that the movie was going to be the success it became so they did anything to get a big name like Nicholson attached to the film...

the only other ending I heard about was the one involving the Joker falling to his death while being attacked by a swarm of bats...which was scrapped at the last minute due to budget and time so the went with the bat-bola around the leg instead

I'm sure we would have heard by now if there was.

the reason i asked was because i was reading a magazine from before Batman came out where it says "an alternative ending has now been shot, while Warner Bros execs thrash out whether the character will be needed in sequels".

There must have been rumours at the time.

An idea brought back for the Ice Princess and The Penguin it seems.

i think in the late 90s there was an idea to have jack be in a part 4 or 5 where the scarecrow would supposedly use his toxins (or whatever) to haunt batman's thoughts with memories or images of the now dead joker - someone back then asked nicholson about upcoming projects and jack responded with something to the effect of 'the joker's coming back' - i think that's when howard stern was being considered for scarecrow

That's correct winged freak, Nicholson was to appear in a cameo in a fear dream when he was intoxicated with Scarecrow's gas. Whether he comes back or not (hoping he will in the future as either a dreamlike cameo or even an older Joker), Jack gave us a performance for the ages and his Joker will always live on.

wow thats interesting to know. I had no clue.

"Do you like eating in here?"   ...Oh yeah. .. ....   ... ... ...You know to tell you the truth, I don't think I've ever been in this room before.
"hahaeheheh"  You want to get out of here?  "YES."

All that ever was was unsubstantiated rumor. No official confirmation of such plot or story ideas were EVER confirmed.

A script for such a 5th film made it's way around the internet, but there's nothing that lends it anymore authenticity than any other fan made script.

Meh. As much as I love Jack's Joker, I didn't want to see him in Triumphant, because as I've said before, it would've been very out of place to have Clooney's Batman be his "opposite".
