Joker's Hair

Hair Dye would be the most logical explanation.

As far as how the heck Joker was able to go back to his post-dip natural green hair color so fast ... eh .... it's one of those things you just have to go with. Much like him reaching the top of the cathedral in 5 mins.
"Imagination is a quality given a man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humour was provided to console him for what he is."

The 5 minute Cathedral climb I put down to the magic of cinema. It did take a long time to climb, Burton just compressed and played with time. We didn't need a long drawn out sequence there, or see the climb in real time.

The hair thing, who knows.

Playing around with time might be an answer to the cathedral, but it also begs the question on if Joker had some sort of code thing going on? Does "5 mins" mean 30 mins? Does "10 mins" mean 40-45? I doubt he wanted to be waiting for a long period of time once reaching the top, just as I'm sure he realized having the helicopter transportation showing up way too soon, thus drawing attention to his escape plan, wouldnt be the best idea either.

That hair thing is a real brain twister though.

Who is to say the Joker didn't talk to his goons on the way up (after hearing Batman was on his way up) to set a trap for him

Joker always likes to be one step ahead of the competition, we saw instances of this in Batman and also in TDK, so yes Ral, I agree, in fact he may have already decided upon the cathedral as his escape  and already as his goons in place just in case or he actually knew Batman would have cornered him up there. Remember he delivered a line somehting like "finds me ready" when he was on the float just before he releases the gas.

That's one thing that's great about the Joker, he's a perfect foil for Batman, alot of the times manages to get the upper hand.

are we talking about if the character would use hair dye or if they actually used it in the film??

the Joker's Green hair was a wig..Nicholson didn't dye his hair...so the scenes with out the green are his actual hair

Suspension of disbelief guys!  :) These final moments work perfectly, and as Ral said one can assume the Joker and the goons had a back-up escape plan and rendevouz with a helicopter at the cathedral.

However, the magic with some movies is that some things need NOT to be explained rationally and in detail - who cares what arrangements did the Joker do in order for the goons to be there as sub-bosses for Batman? As others have said, we can fill these holes without seeing them on screen, and if some people care about these "plot holes", their problem.

Not to mention, as Grissom said, it's THE Joker - this guy always seemed to have mystic powers in a lot of instances in comics, movies, cartoons etc  ;D

Joker certainly has a knack for cheating sure death on numerous occasions, which isnt a bad "power" when you are a villain (especially during the early 1940's).

Again with the hair dye, Joker could have been using one of those in-wash out dyes, but they usually take atleast 10 washes or more to completely come out. I doubt we are supposed to believe he was using a tinted mousse that would actually wash right out, but it's just one of those things that I try not to think about too much. As I remember Joker doing this in the comics at the time as well ("Death in the Family" arc comes to mind) where he disguised himself with a normal skin tone, and instead of brown hair ... it was jet black.

Of course he was back to his usual white faced, green haired self very soon after.

He couldn't escape death in Bat89. No way in hell given that scenario!
Good post re: the hair as well.
