I have little interest in seeing harley on film (apart from the obvious).

why? Cause it creates attachment to the Joker character, humanises him too much and creates a cliche.

However if better peps than me can make it work then that's great but...

The Joker doesn't have to actively associate with Harley himself.  I agree that it would detract from the power of the Joker if Harley were portrayed as a standard side-kick (although the male/female team didn't make Bonnie and Clyde seem any less lethal).
Harley could be a psychologist at Arkham attempting to 'treat' or understand the Joker, who gets seduced by his magnetic but evil personailty, and continues his objectives on the outside world.
What could be less human or empathetic than a Hannibal Lector like psychopath who uses influence to continue wreaking havoc on Gotham City even after he has been incarcerated?
Perhaps it is still another cliche, but I do believe that it is possible to introduce Harley without humanising the Joker.
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

I recently read the "Joker" one-shot, and they managed to pull off a particularly wicked version of Harley Quinn (a flayed man depicted in the story might contribute to this impression of course). She looks like a junky, she never utters a single line of dialogue (this is what makes her scary), and she's more dangerous than any of the Joker's henchmen. Borderline R-rated of course, and this could be from any dirty crime B-movie if you take away the latex harlequin leotard.

nooooooooo she needs to talk and be bouncy and goofy. that makes her harley.

Undeniable. No if's, and's, or but's (unless it's an Elseworlds story).

yea. there's a reason my nickname around my town is harley lol.

I don't think Harley should be portrayed as an idiot (she is a psychology major after all so she must be fairly intelligent) but neither should she be portrayed as a mute punk.  Like Catwoman has suggested, Harley should retain some of the characteristics that she possessed in the original animated series but her external bubbliness and frivolity should be a cover for an acute and lethal intelligence.

she just shouldn't know it. cause then you take all the fun out of it.

I don't think Harley should be portrayed on film...nor do i think she ever will be. I think it's best we leave that character alone and in the classic animated series. She was great and by far one of my favorites, and the only series she would have fit would have been the Burton movies. But sadly, he had to kill off the Joker. Lets just be glad Joel didnt try and bring back the Joker and use Harley as his daughter instead of his lover/side kick.
