I have The Greatest Joker stories ever told, the original edition. I also bought the 2008 edition, but have not looked at it until this morning. And to my surprise Jokers origin story is not in it!! The Man In The Red Hood has been ommitted!!

I was a bit disgusted at this, as I think this story is a major and important story in the evoulution of the Joker, and cant understand how they could concieve of deleting it from the book.

Then I got thinking. Is this another stunt by DC/WB because of the release of TDK? Are they now ereasing the origin of the Joker, because their new film does not have an origin, or Nolans Joker's origin would not be the same as the comics!?

Moved to general since it's about comics.

No worries, I wasnt too sure where to post it.

Your theory wouldn't surprise me.  Really, DC is becoming similar to what MTV was in the mid to late 90's.  Rather than setting the trends, it simply reflects them.  There was a time when the comics set the tone for the adaptations.  More and more, I've noticed that the comics have simply started to reflect the prevailing trend (they ditched the yellow oval after the oval-less thing became popular on the WB BTAS; Superman's Fortress of Solitude is basically directly from the Reeve movies nowadays; etc).

Funny you should say that. I just recieved the graphic novel 'Joker' in the post and it is obvious that the drawings of the Joker in this new comic have all been inspired by Ledgers Joker!!!

Now I was going to start a different topic about this, but one thing I didnt want to happen is that every Batman comic that has the Joker in it from now on in does not look or act like Ledgers Joker!

But I think its inevitable, isnt it??

This was on Wiki:

In 2008, Brian Azzarello's Joker offers an alternate portrayal of the eponymous villain, after his mysterious release from Arkham. Joker foregoes much of his trademark campy theatrics in favour of displays of ultra-violent, pill-popping schizophrenia. In both appearance and character he bears a strong resemblance to Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight.

My nightmare has came true!!
Joker is no longer going to be as we remember him. He'll just be another Freddy Krueger comic book mass murderer.

Crispin Glover was right 'Clowny Clown, Clown'

I hope and predict that this is just coincidence and not a new trend, however, I find the special features of TDK to present a similar conundrum. Not even as much as a whisper is made about the old Batman films at any point on any of the special features. Even the one where it is called something like the psychology of a super-hero, every single reference of any psychological profile etc. about Batman is made either about Begins or TDK.

I mean I might be a little one sided being such an 89 and Returns fan, but it literally seems as if the special features were making a significant effort to make sure no past Batman films accept Begins were mentioned as credible sources of this super-hero psychology.

UMMMMM if some of you did some research those drawings were made before Ledger's Joker had even started in production, those drawings for your info, were most of the influence on why they did The Joker the way they did in TDK.

Dont you guys ever read interviews on here, this is old old old news, like older than a year! That and for those of you who get so mad because batman fans arent "open-minded" your sounding like what you hate the most.

The Joker can be anything you want him to be, he dosent have to stick to exactly what we've seen in the ga-zillion comics with The Joker in them up until now, why not have something fresh rather than re-hash the same stuff we've gotten for the past , hmmm almost 70 years!

Again, Lee's Joker design and stories were being done before they even decided how to do Ledger's Joker in the film, it was a huge influence on their decision, which was a perfect one at that, dont re-hash something we've already seen a bunch, do a new fresh original take, and thats exactly what we got, with the comic and the film! If you want your other versions of The Joker go find your old comics or graphic novels and read those, this is something new, if you dont like it, done read it, watch it, or look at it. :)

Thats because its their world they've created and theyre proud of it and they have a good right to be ( the past films before BB have nothing to do with what they're talking about), you dont hear Burton referencing the Nolan films or Schumacher's films in his interviews on the SE of 89 or BR do you? NO you dont, same thing!
