NEW INTERVIEW WITH JOEL SCHUMACHER!!!

I've seen interviews with Keaton where he made it clear he didn't like the script and that's why he didn't sign on. But maybe he just wasn't really interested in doing another Batman movie. As comic book fans, we tend to forget that a lot of the actors who play our favorite characters just don't care as much about the roles as we do.

As for Batman Returns, I don't understand why Schumacher keeps saying that WB considered the franchise to be dead. I knew the film was criticized for being too dark but I always considered the film to be a huge hit. I would think if that was the case there would be some articles in Variety or the Hollywood Reporter saying something to that effect. Perhaps he's right but it doesn't seem so--a worldwide gross of 266 million was huge back in 1992!

Batman Returns is better then Batman Forever.

By a mile. There is no contest.

I agree w/ you Dark Knight. Returns will always be the best Batman/comic book film ever (no disrespect to BATMAN, of course). W/O it, The Dark Knight would not have gone for an "Empire Strikes Back" type of feel.

Without Batman Begins TDK wouldnt have gone for that "Empire strikes back" feel!

I have given a name to my pain, and it is BATMAN.

Returns started that for the Batman films, so don't deny it! ;D

Awesome read. Although I came out of it despising shoemaker even more.
I hated Batman and Robin. Batman Forever was on the edge of wtf? But Val Kilmer did a pretty cool job. However it really strayed very far from the reason I grown love for BATMAN to begin with.

The first Batman film was raw. Even the suit Keaton wore was raw. It was a "badass" BATMAN film of its time. Both Keaton and Jack were incredible at making love to the big screen.  Batman Returns did feel a little different and I wasn't too sure how to feel about it, but i was happy to see the new suit and the classic bit glossed Batmobile which is just IMHO thee BEST Batmobile ever.

I wont touch a shoesmasher film with a ten foot pole.
And i call BS in his statements about Keaton and Returns supposedly failed success. What a crock. Everyone and their moms went to see BR because of Catwoman. I remember that was big talk. OOOooh Catwoman yum! I remember that very well. And she did not disappoint. Brought in a bunch of female batfans forward.

BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS RULE!!!

"hahaeheheh"  You want to get out of here?  "YES."

Batman Returns is said to have scared families, yet did so well at the box office & was critically successful (it was #3, behind Home Alone 2 & Aladdin in 1992). Anyway, who would not want to see it? I mean, there's Keaton's Batman, DeVito's Penguin, Pfeiffer's Catwoman, Walken's wig, etc. It's those damn soccer mommies from 1992 that try to bring down Batman Returns. Fools! Also, I think it's BS when Schumacher said that Keaton was bored w/ Batman. Whenever Keaton is asked about Batman, he gladly talks about the films & what he would've done in Burton's Batman 3. To me, Michael Keaton will always be Batman! ;D

Walken's wig,

Hahahahahha You can't forget a wig like that. XD

Keaton is my favorite Batman. Hell, I'm a Keaton fan ever since Beetlejuice. It was amazing to see him as Batman and actually pull it off so well. God how I wish I could travel back in time when the film first came out and all those wonderful merchandises hit the shelves. I was so young and my mom never liked buying me toys, so I was only fortunate enough to get her to buy me that Mad magazine with Alfred wearing the bat suit with the superman logo on his chest.  Those were the days....  :)

I became a fan of Keaton when I first saw BATMAN at a very young age. He's the embodiment of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Take no substitutes. Speaking of Mad magazine, did you ever get the one w/ Keaton getting a haircut on the cover? I thought it was funny, although they drew him in the BATMAN suit instead of the Returns suit, which was wrong b/c it came out in 1992.

I haven't seen that one, but I will keep my eyes out for it. I recently found the one i had as a kid and purchased it on ebay for 5 dollars in mint condition. Totally took me back! ^_^

I applaud you for being able to enjoy the Tim Burton Bat films. I cant relate to how your generation takes in these types of movies in this day and age, but it's great to know there's young people out there who have the ability to appreciate such cool classic films with an open mind.

I really like this site. I given up on finding an 89 dedicated site like this. Im so happy to have found it. =]

Thank you.

As for people in my age group, it's a shame that lot of these teenage "fanboys" & "fangirls" have never even read any of the Batman comics, nor have they seen the Batman films prior to Batman Begins, but yet they'll bash at them. How pathetic. As a Batman fan & movie-goer, I've always found the Burton films to be the closest live action Batman films to resemble the "Dark Knight" comics.
