I'll pick up the collected graphic novel of 'Batman RIP' when that comes out too. In which I hear they are just resting the character for a year, in which he has a gand comeback at the end of next year. The final panel involves Batman and a helicopter, but Bruce's body is not shown.

The be-all, end-all of elseworlds Batman tales.

Batman: Vampire. It's my favorite Batman story of all time, just behind KnightSaga.

Oh, and also:

"Batman: Strange Apparitions" and its sequel "Batman: Dark Detective."

Both are by Steve Engalhart (writer) and the late Marshall Rogers (artist). The two, together, are widely considered "The definitive Batman." And the first one is one of the specific runs that Burton was given as inspiration for B89. Engalhart also wrote the script treatment for the film that became Sam Hamm's script. Rupert Thorne and Silver St. Cloud in the book basically become Grissom and Vicki in the film. The story content isn't necessarily the same, but the two TPBs are ABSOLUTELY the Batman that Burton put on screen in the first film (and for the most part, the second). They are absolutely of the same flavor, and that's why I love them so much.

I don't care what anyone says, Engalhart and Rogers' work will ALWAYS be the definitive Batman.
