Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog were all found dead in their Sante Fe home. Despite all three of them seemingly dying at the same time, apparently there is no foul play suspected in their passings.

Whatever the case may be, RIP Gene Hackman.

This one has me broken up. I adore Hackman and his films. He was a titan of cinema and he remains the greatest Lex Luthor of our time. I am especially alarmed to hear that it was an untimely demise and that his wife, Betsy Arakawa, has also tragically died. Yes, he was an elderly man (95) with perhaps only a few years left, but this bites. Damn it this just chaps my ass something fierce! And his wife as well! It is currently suspected that it was a leak of some kind? My thoughts are with his surviving family. I am not a happy man, today. Rest in peace Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa. I am absolutely devastated.

Hackman really was one of the all-time greats. My father's always been a huge fan of his, so I grew up watching his movies from a young age. There are too many classic films on his filmography to list them all, but some of my personal favourites include The Conversation (1974), Bat*21 (1988), The Firm (1993) and of course Superman I and II.

There have been several notable Hollywood deaths this week. Michelle Trachtenberg died on the 27th. She was exactly the same age as me. Literally, we were born one day apart. I remember going to see Harriet the Spy (1996) when it first came out, and later I used to watch her on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's very sad.

Also, writer and producer Roberto Orci, best known for his collaborations with Alex Kurtzman, died on the 25th. Orci was a protégé of Sam Raimi and began his career writing for Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: The Warrior Princess. Later he co-wrote the screenplays for several Transformers and Star Trek films, as well as Mission: Impossible III (2006), Watchmen (2009), Ender's Game (2013) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). He was only 51.

Initial speculation pointed to carbon monoxide poisoning, however the latest reports state that there was no evidence of obvious environmental factors contributing to the deaths. We'll likely find out what happened soon enough. At any rate, it's a horribly tragic situation. Hackman had a great innings, making it to the age of 95, but his wife was considerably younger. For the two of them to die so close together and not be discovered for several days is heartbreaking.

Rest in peace Hackman and Arakawa. And rest in peace Trachtenberg and Orci.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Hackman.

Horrible news. Guess I'll be watching Superman: The Movie, in honor of the man, tonight. Maybe Crimson Tide as well, if time permits.

R.I.P.

"Imagination is a quality given a man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humour was provided to console him for what he is."

I anticipate being busy for the next few days. But I already planning to rewatch The Conversation (maybe as a double feature with Enemy Of The State, which I consider to be an unindicted sequel The Conversation), The Unforgiven and possibly The Poseidon Adventure. So, if I end up rewatching them, it can be in honor of Hackman.

I haven't seen a Hackman film in quite so time, but I remember him having a commanding presence and masculine charisma akin to Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis. Seeing the last photo of him from last year was a stark reminder about the reality of old age. It didn't even look like him. The circumstances around his death seem odd, but it seems to me he could've had a fall and the wife committed suicide upon discovering his body. In any case, Hackman was a very strong actor and my favorite Lex. I sincerely hope he had a peaceful life after his retirement from acting. RIP.
