With Hamada hitting the road and Cavill confirming his return as Superman (both in Black Adam and in general), I'm prepared to say that the Abrams Superman movie is dead in the water.

Cavill's always had that traditional Superman look, but the spit curl is the icing on the cake

RIP woke Superman. Hopefully your demise betokens the beginning of the end of Bad Robot's reign of terror.

Cavill just got on Instagram and said he's back and there's more of his Superman to come.

He's not in the black suit, but I don't think that necessarily cancels out ZSJL canonicity. Given we have to ignore Snyder's original plan, my headcanon is that Superman wore that suit for a period of time after the resurrection, but not for long. Once he was fully healed he resumed duties with the red and blue. And let's be honest, if you're relaunching the character again he has to look presentable to the mainstream. This is a second chance, and while I still want a three dimensional character, it's time to show Superman as the fully established global protector.

Yes indeed. Step aside woke Superman, and unnecessary reboots.

Cavill is finally back in his signature role. Let's get this party started.
"Imagination is a quality given a man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humour was provided to console him for what he is."

Here is a collection of Henry Cavill expressing his desire to reprise the role over the years, despite the old regime's rejection.

QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

I've often said Superman is one of the most mismanaged properties in existence. For such a big character he has been a mascot and nothing more. For the first time in a very, very long time that can dramatically change, and I'm still wrapping my head around that. This is not just a rejection of the old regime and wokeness, but a victory for hope, which is the very foundation of the character. I strongly feel that Superman can no longer be an experimental plaything, and indeed, I think the angry dictator trope ala Injustice needs to be rested. We're also putting distance from the overused Death and Return arc - which I liked from BvS, but also needs a good break.

Constantine, the animated Batman thing and now black Superman have all been put on ice. The Constantine thing in particular has to hurt since it's being shelved in favor of a sequel to Keanu's ancient Constantine movie that didn't even pronounce the lead character's name properly.

It's hard not to interpret all of the above as shots fired in Bad Robot's direction.

Considering that Abrams is persona non grata at Disney, Paramount and now (apparently) WBD, one wonders what options he has left. You might suggest Universal. But if the rumors about Zaslav quietly arranging for WBD to get bought out by Comcast are true, all of a sudden Universal doesn't seem like a much friendlier venue for Abrams than anyplace else.

If I'm Abrams, I'm calling Jennifer Garner to feel her out about an Alias revival right about now.

Form that investors call last week, it sounds like Cavil and Affleck are coming back. He clearly mentioned the trinity as a focal point for the DCEU moving forward.

I think Keaton was supposed to be coming back as the main Batman, but I think they're ditching that idea and moving with Affleck.

Nothing is confirmed, but that's what would make sense to me. What else would it mean, unless they're doing a full-on reboot, which we haven't heard anything about. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
You know, this reminds me of that SDCC rumor that was floating around a few weeks ago. The tl;dr of it is that Cavill would be at SDCC and make a "surprise announcement" that his Superman is coming, a sequel is on the way, blah blah blah.

At the time, I didn't pay it much attention. Figured if anything happened, it would be all over the Internet soon enough. And wouldn't you know, nothing happened.

But the way you phrased your post jogged my memory about the Cavill rumor. Obviously, no announcement was made. But now I'm wondering if something WAS scheduled but then the announcement fell apart at the last minute because showbiz, to be rescheduled for some other time.

Again, not predicting anything. Maybe I'm connecting dots that have no business being connected. But now I'm wondering that the rumor might have been true after all... until something changed at the last minute.

In light of this conference call stuff, the Cavill rumor thing is interesting to think about, if nothing else.
And here we are. We'll never know what might've happened. But I stand by the little conspiracy theory I floated above. This sounds very plausible now.
