I always thought that there's enough mythology and world-building in the first three games alone to make for a decent film or even a few films. Let's face it, the promise of the premise for a Mortal Kombat movie will be the fights.

But there's still some meat on the bone. Scorpion's grudge against Sub-Zero, Raiden always having his own agenda, Liu Kang as the canonical champion of at least the first two (first three?) tournaments, End Of The World stakes for the tournaments, etc. You'd think any decent screenwriter could work with those elements and create something entertaining.

Kudos to the crew for making Sub-Zero responsible for Jax losing his arms. I don't remember if that was ever addressed in the games.

In the animated Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, it was Goro who cost Jax his arms.

This trailer looks very good, but I prefer to keep my expectations low. Live-action movies based on video games don't have a great track record.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

This can't be real... Can it?

Next they'll be complaining about the absence of Black Widow in the JL Snyder Cut trailer.
