Release the Ayer Cut?

David Ayer highlighted the latest Twitter trending campaign on social media, scheduled on May 20th.

He still wants his cut announced. It would be great if his cut got announced on that date, which would mark the second anniversary when ZSJL was confirmed.

Could've sworn we had a thread for Ayer's 2016 film. But if we do, I couldn't find it after a couple minutes of searching.

Anyway, Geekosity (https://geekositymag.com/ayer-cut-of-suicide-squad-imminent-for-hbo-max) is predicting the Ayer cut will be released this year. Rumors are a dime a dozen. So, normally I wouldn't bother posting something like this here.

But I'm making an exception in this case since there's a built in timer. They're claiming it will be this year. Either it is or isn't. So, if it's not, that should tell you everything you need to know.

Honestly, I believe releasing the Ayer cut is at least theoretically possible now. It's no secret that the outgoing regime had no love for whatever Ayer originally wanted to do. They were never going to do anything with 2016 Suicide Squad. And the new regime is too new to rate, frankly. But there's a chance that they might be open to Ayer's version. There are no guarantees, obviously. But either way, there you go.

Also, if I somehow overlooked the dedicated Ayer Suicide Squad thread then the mod(s) should feel free to move this post over to that thread.

EDIT- Herp a derp, this is what happens when I post to the wrong forum. Oops. Thx to whoever moved it, much appreciated.

I'm confident the Ayer cut will see the light of day, David himself continues to post some never-before-seen content to keep interest alive, such as this poem by Karen Fukuhara's Katana.

Katana's sword keeps the souls of all the people she executes. For all we know, she could've been reciting this poem in Japanese during a sombre moment while the rest of the Suicide Squad were getting ready to face Enchantress.

Back on-topic: before any DC project can be announced, it seems WBD has to finish restructuring the organisation, such as finding new executives:

Let's see how that turns out. Sutton got some things right lately (e.g. TSS box office bomb, Flash release date getting delayed), and he also got some things wrong (e.g. Batfleck appearing in Batgirl). Still, I have a lot of high hopes for Ayer's Suicide Squad getting announced this year, at the bare minimum.

I stand corrected, I forgot there were subtitles in that scene.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Katana recites that poem in the Ayer cut or not. Whether if it's an extended scene or in another scene.

She might not have been informed (or is simply being coy about it), but Karen Fukuhara is keen on the idea of releasing the Ayer cut.

The Rock has always been egotistical, so I can't say I'm totally surprised he tweeted this. For the last couple of years, he has been promoting Black Adam as "the hierarchy of the DC Universe is about to change", as if he's going to surpass Batman and Superman's popularity. Sorry, but Black Adam will forever be a supervillain to me.

Judging by the reactions to the latest trailer, he might want to be careful about boasting himself in case the film is panned as a wannabe MCU clone. I haven't even bothered watching the trailer, because nothing DC is doing right now is worthwhile to me. I'll take the Ayer cut any day.

It was revealed today that David Ayer gave somebody in charge of the Ayer Cut Twitter account the chance to watch the film. Ayer confirmed it with a GIF saying "FACTS".

https://twitter.com/DavidAyerMovies/status/1578073313812697088

According to the account, the Ayer cut doesn't have the Flash cameo like in the theatrical cut, but it has been described as a "mature story" and makes more sense as a BvS follow-up. Scott Eastwood's character has more to do and Cara Delevigne's Enchantress was given high praise in this cut. It was reaffirmed that Batfleck has "longer scenes" in this cut, which isn't surprising if you looked at the extended shots from the Joker Lambourghini scene that was leaked online.

Here is a clip of the original Arkham Asylum raid scene that is supposedly from the Ayer cut.

Some say that this is a fan edit, but I'm not so sure. If it was, whoever did this had to go through enormous trouble to get the sound effects right and dilute it to make it sound like a bootleg rip.

Here is a comparison between that leaked clip, and the theatrical cut version.

Meanwhile, WBD CEO David Zaslav announced on an earnings call saying no movie that lasted two and a half hours on HBO Max ever helped the streaming service. From what I've read, the Ayer lasts two hours and thirty six minutes, so I guess it sounds unlikely the film will be released on that service.

On the other hand, Ayer tweeted the hashtag and gave some fans the privilege to watch his cut recently. Would he need permission from the studio to do that?

David Ayer's ass-kissing support for James Gunn on Twitter is getting nauseating. To add further insult to injury, he is liking conflicting tweets by people who are either pro-Ayer cut or those who are pro-Gunn and trolling the fans.

It has been over a year since the cast of TSS called for the Ayer's cut release to try to hook fans into seeing Gunn's box office bomb, and there has been radio silence ever since. Except when Gunn acknowledged #ReleaseTheAyerCut a month ago. But he said this in a rather backhanded manner - and emphasised he's working on "the biggest story ever told" with Safran.

The way I see it, the cut is not coming out any time soon, and Ayer will continue to alienate and diminish the support he has for his cut if he keeps this up. Should that happen, he will only have himself to blame for his spinelessness.

A week and a half ago, a fan called Will Rowlands replied to a video made by Zachary Levi, who mentioned TSS was better than the original.

Quote
Hey @ZacharyLevi I have seen the #AyerCut of SuicideSquad. Trust me, it's a million times better than TSS & the theatrical SS. I also recall you publicly saying SnyderCut didn't exist. I find it hard to believe this speech with you track record of accuracy.

If there's lie Going around re James. Correct them. Let us know who or what is wrong. I like many other want justice. But until it's explained to me why he tweeted what he did & was or is friends with convicted pedo's, I struggle to forgive or forget. Remember your target audience are kids.

https://twitter.com/willrowactor/status/1606241323958161410?cxt=HHwWhMCioar-wcosAAAA

I'd assume Rowlands is lying if Ayer hadn't confirmed he had shown his cut to fans. According to another tweet, Rowlands has stated he watched the cut while he was invited on Ayer's set of his new film, The Beekeeper.

Regardless, Levi should STFU. There was already a video of him pouting publicly he won't consider Safran and Gunn his friends any more if they don't use his Shazam in the future, so this ass-kissing comes across as rather desperate.
