Burton deserves the recognition he gets for his creativity that helped shape Batman on film, and his influence is still felt today. But you have to give credit to Michael Uslan for being a visionary too. If it weren't for his passion and belief in the character's potential beyond the Adam West era, Batman  would likely still be held back by naysayers.

Very perceptive explanation by Basinger for the reasoning behind her white dress in the cathedral scene. It does make sense, given how she looks like a fairytale character trapped in a dark fantasy and staring at these two freaks fighting each other.

I'm surprised to hear Robert Wuhl wasn't a fan of the 60s show.

Let's be thankful the movie was made 30 years ago. That little "fat-shaming" moment between Vicki and Batman at the end of the alley scene would've faced unnecessary backlash in today's toxic "social" media climate.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

Great article. I liked the last part with Kim Basinger in particular  :)

Wow, it's really fascinating how much vision Basinger brought to the film, especially the climax in the belfry. Almost everything I love about that sequence basically came directly from her. She came up with something that served both Vicki and the Joker as characters in the film, showing Vicki fighting back in probably the only way that was possible for her.

I always respected her work in the film but I think it just doubled.

Great article. Basinger is right. If the Joker had been stalking Vicki for the duration of the film it made sense for the guy to indulge his obsession, and for Vicki to eventually exploit that obsession. From another standpoint I've always liked the juxtaposition of Batman literally fighting for his life while the Joker is having the time of his life.

Think this is the first time I've heard about Sean Young's involvement beyond her horse riding accident.
