Quote from: The Dark Knight on Sat, 17 Sep  2016, 03:20I think the poster Catwoman posted is great. And it works even better as an inversion of the original B89 poster. However I prefer the totem pole image because its wholly original to BR and stands on its own two feet. It's simple but still says a lot about the movie.
The snowy bat poster being derivative of B89's poster is precisely why I dig it. It's in the same visual vocabulary of B89... but slightly different. And slightly more monochromatic. Both of those can be said of the movie itself. Plus it hints at the snowy, Christmasy vibe of the movie.

It just WORKS for me.

Sadly, your avatar has always been my least favorite BR poster. As others have said, it's just too busy. It does make me wonder what Drew Struzan would've done with a Batman Returns poster though...
I think my avatar poster ticks the twisted fairytale box. It has a busier, adventure themed design. But the palette is still dark. The only form of colour is Batman's chest emblem, with blue, black and white being the most prominent hues. I prefer those other two BR posters as works of art, but I think the poster in question is underrated. All three main characters are there and they grab your eye. It's fun but maintains that surreal seriousness we like. But, different strokes for different folks.

I think that TDK's avatar works a lot better as an avatar than it does as a poster.
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

I got to admit that as much as I thought Batman Begins was an overrated disappointment, I did like the poster where his cape is flung open in the sky as bats fly everywhere.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

I don't think any of TDK trilogy posters come close to the iconic brilliance of the Batman '89 and Batman Returns posters.

That said, I do like the running theme throughout the trilogy posters, with each poster featuring the silhouette of a bat through some form or another.

Instead of the usual poster, I actually like the layout of the Batman Returns banner a little better. Fills out the space more.

Also makes the bold choice of putting Catwoman front and center. I've heard some compelling arguments that it's really her movie, and it also makes sense that she's caught in the middle between the ultimate good and evil.

Catwoman has a prominent role, and Michele chews the scenery. But I'd say BR really is a four character opera. The only character missing on the posters that has a truly prominent role is Max.

Which is part of what makes the movie so intriguing, the fact that maybe its worst baddy isn't even seen till you popped the VHS or DVD in (unless you were one of the lucky stiffs that got to see it at the theater....hate you).

Perhaps it more fitting that Max is nowhere to be seen, given he's orchestrating things. The Penguin was Max's public face for the scheme.

Opening day, represent!!

No need to mention the 1989 emblem, it's like the logos from Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park etc. Iconic.

I love these two. For years they were hanging on the wall.

Totally different to what a "superhero" movie poster is supposed to look like. Agreed with what's been said about it in other posts in this thread.

The other BR poster is great but has none of the atmosphere of these two. IMO it's art better suited for merchandise.

Also like these character posters from Rises. Always thought they were a bit similar to the BR one-sheet.

Come to think of it, most Batman posters, for all the movies, are good. They succesfully represent the movie's content, tone, style.

The only subpar piece of Batman artwork are the Bat-symbols first seen on the 2005 SEs, and later re-used for the Blurays. Just awful.
