Not sure how much this factors into the plot, but it's very impressive.

QuoteHe's next playing Commissioner Gordon in Justice League. Was this something that director Zack Snyder asked of him?

As far as the whole Justice League stuff goes, if he is trying to get ready for something in that arena, I'm not aware of it and he never shared it with me. I'm only training with him as a friend and client and helping him achieve what he's trying to achieve with his new physique.

Considering that Jim Gordon will likely be seen in his standard tie and coat in Justice League, I feel like Simmons's physique is more for his own benefit than anything to do with the film. Still, Simmons, like Affleck, will be the most muscular version of the character yet. Expect Gordon to be built like a brickhouse, Arkham video game style.
That awkward moment when you remember the only Batman who's never killed is George Clooney...

Snyder's Gordon would beat Nolan's Batman in a fight no problems. Affleck's awesome Batman wouldn't even be needed.  :P

So far the pattern is for every Gordon to be more physical and willing to get their hands dirty than the last.

Neil Hamilton mostly stayed in his office waiting to use the bat-phone whenever something bad happened.
Pat Hingle went out to crime scenes to investigate but basically gave orders to the other cops
Gary Oldman was more of the physical cop making arrests on his own, firing guns and putting himself into dangerous situations.
So far JK simmons seems like a real fighter who might actually go toe-to-toe with criminals.

I really doubt Gordon will get a character arc in a Justice League movie, but if he were, I'd like to think he's getting jacked up because it's in retaliation to a Killing Joke-type situation. Determining to make sure what happened to him and Barbara will never occur again. Kind of like how Batman toughened up on his stance on crime in BvS, although not as extreme.

QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

Some new comments from Simmons concerning his take on Gordon:

Quote"People of my generation remember Commissioner Gordon as this jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus type, and I think over the years in the comics there's definitely much more of a badass side to him," Simmons explains. "One of the things that's interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]...You're living in a universe where it's pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that's a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, 'Help! Help, Batman!'"

I've got to say, this is exactly the direction I was hoping they'd go in. I love Oldman's Gordon and I can't see anyone topping his take on the younger version of the character. So it makes sense to move on to the tougher, older and more grizzled Gordon from The Dark Knight Returns. A sort of cross between Harry Callahan and Paul Kersey. I'm glad Simmons is thinking along the same lines.

You and me both. I've wanted a scene like this from Batman #519 for a long time now.

At this stage, I'm expecting (or hoping) there's going to be some outtakes released to the public with Affleck as Batman and Simmons as Gordon walking over to Ezra Miller in his Flash costume, and doing the old; "Bro, do you even LIFT?"  ;D

Or at the very least another skit on Jimmy Kimmel.
"Imagination is a quality given a man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humour was provided to console him for what he is."

Gym Gordon.

Batman, no matter the obstacle, we can work it out.

Yep. That's exactly the kind of Gordon I want to see now.
