Following Gary Oldman, the next Commissioner Gordon is...J. Jonah Jameson?!! And he'll be appearing in the Justice League films first!

This is certainly a surprise. Hoping they give him his own hairpiece and mustache like they did with JJJ in the Spider-Man movies.
That awkward moment when you remember the only Batman who's never killed is George Clooney...

This IS a huge surprise.

I think Simmons is a great actor, but my preferred choice would've been Bryan Cranston. No big deal though.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

I'm very cool with this choice.  Plus it leaves Cranston to play Norman Osborn in the Spider-Man reboot (hopefully).
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

I think Simmons will bring a necessary gruffness to the role and a sense that this guy's a veteran cop who's been through a lot.

Or a major character period. Simmons is great as a supporting character but probably couldn't handle being a major villain, Cranston could. I'm excited

I agree.  Of all the performances in TDK Gary Oldman as Gordon was the most consistent and close to the comic-book character, particularly the Year One version, as far as I am concerned, so whoever took on this part next would have to sufficiently differentiate their performance from Oldman's.  I reckon Simmons will be able to do this by playing a gruffer, more cynical, world-weary Gordon than Oldman's relatively young, beleaguered, slightly naïve version of the character.

I'm sure Simmons will do more than a 'good job' in the part.  ;)

For those curious to see what Simmons would look like with the hair, glasses, and mustache, check out the photo manip in this link:

Personally I hope it's something similar to this look. We haven't had a white-haired Gordon in live action in a long time and Gordon was pretty much white-haired through all the comics up until Year One. It would fit in with the TDKR aesthetic that Affleck's already adopting, help to differentiate him from Oldman's Gordon, and would fit with Simmons's age (he's older than Oldman).

Let's also note that Simmons is old enough to have a 20-something year old daughter...
