The World of Gotham

So I watched the fantastic Batman '89 this past Saturday and afterwards I was thinking about how wonderful and surreal Burton and Furst realized Gotham City. It then got me thinking about Dawn of Justice and wondering how Gotham will be truly presented. I know Snyder is a visual artist and what we have seen so far in the trailers presents a very modern, bustling city but I'm still hoping that we get some inserts, if you will, of art deco, gothic, Wagnerian, baroque-type architecture within or around Gotham. I saw saw some of it when we saw the shots of Wayne Manor in the trailers but I'm hoping we don't get just a generic city, a generic metropolis (pun intended)

I remember reading that during the filming of Batman returns, something like one quarter of warner brothers lot was occupied with Gotham city sets. Say what you will about Burton but he did a better job of making Gotham city a character than any other director. I am hoping Snyder does as well and it looks like he will as the setting plays a big role in BvS

The gargoyles and stuff on the buildings in the Turkish Air ad looked like it might be stylized a bit. I hope it is.

Yeah, the gargoyles are a nice addition. I guess we won't really see Gotham in all it's glory until we see Affleck's stand-alone bat-films.

I'm particularly looking forward to Affleck's solo Batman films, especially if, as rumoured, he'll be directing them himself (he is after all the guy who made the awesome Gone Baby Gone and Argo).

Does anyone have any clue whether they'll be prequels to Batman v Superman or a continuation?  I'd personally love to see Affleck playing a younger Batman taking on his Rogues' Gallery, including The Joker, during the middle, rather the end of his career, but the problem with prequels is that they're relatively devoid of tension as we know who will and won't live.
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

I think prequels would not make a lot of sense considering they're the ones who wanted Affleck to be an older and experienced Batman in the first place.

Yep. Continue the story going forward. Croc, Joker and Harley exist. I'm sure the others do too.

i wouldn't have any issue with a prequel. You can tell they're using makeup to make Affleck look older and there's been quite a bit of continuity skipped over. A prequel would also eliminate the obvious questions "where is the rest of the justice league?"

Have to admit, I sometimes snigger when they say the word "Gotham" in TDK.

It's about time we see a more proper Gotham on film.

Gotham should have something particular about it, especially in its architecture. It's a grand city that has a wonderful history and incorporates various styles in its design and layout. Burton and Co. did this brilliantly for the '89 film and hoping to see something more in line with that.
