How much do you think The Dark Knight will gross at the US Box-Office?

The Dark Knight is already a huge financial and critical success. Does anyone believe that TDK will gross more than Shrek 2 at the US Box-Office? I'm counting on it. What do you think will happen?

I'd be surprised if it doesn't go beyond $300 million.  It's already done an estimated $261 million (according to boxofficemojo.com) and it's only been out there for a week so it's probably no stretch to think it can pull down that extra $40 million.

id estimate 500 mill. Repeated viewings from diehard fans and the Ledger thing will help. The fact that every kid I've seen go to this film passes out won't.

Serious?

Actually, I advised a fried of mine not to take his son to see it (he's about 6).

Kids anywhere from really young to about 12 that I've seen in my packed theatre end up snoozing or in the case of the reeaaaaalllllly young kids, end up wandering around the theatre.

can't hold a kids attention for 2 and half hours with a film that doesn't really have but a few scenes of action in it.

If The Dark Knight gets to $300 Million by next week, it's a no-brainer that the film will make an estimate of $450 million by the end of its 14 week tenure in theatres. I mean, who wants Shrek 2 as the 3rd largest grossing film ever, TDK deserves that spot.  No movie has or will ever defeat the box-office success of Titanic. The film made 600 million in the US alone. It's just never going to happen with any other movie, unless the movie has some type of miracle script, actors, direction, etc.

Yeah, I think around or a little over $450 million in the U.S. is about right I think.  The distribution guy for Warners thinks it will hit $400 million in 18 days.  I really hope I'm wrong, but it will be tough to beat Titanic.  Nothing would make me happier though ;D.
I appreciate ALL dark, serious, and faithful Batman films.

I read the story on Yahoo Movies, and all I can say is The Dark Knight will definately defeat Shrek 2 by the next two weeks. Though, I wouldn't get too carried away with TDK defeating Titanic at the box-office. Technically, TDK would have to gross $75 million every week, in order to take the #1 spot. But hey, let's sit back and see what happens.

Boy, what a stupid guess this turned out to be.  It never occurred to me that TDK would have a huge weekend like it did.

This is why I don't like speculating on box office returns.

Warner Bros. will probably give Christopher Nolan the rights to make as many Batman films as he wants, if in fact TDK beats Titanic at the Box-Office. I think either way they already planned for another sequel due to the immediate success of TDK. So don't be surprised if they come out with"The Dark Knight Returns" in 4 years or so.
