Where is Batman at the very beginning?

The image of Batman looking down on Gotham after the family gets mugged, where is he?

I'm pretty sure it may be the Cathedral but is it definite? I have the image but can't seem to get it uploaded.
I absolutely love that shot but it just occurred to me about his exact location.

that's one of the reasons Batman still rocks we can revisit the film time and time again and find something new. ;)

I vote cathedral. Not sure what else I could have voted but still lol.

It's a great shot. And how he swoops in in the background while they're bullsh*tting about the stuff in Harold's wallet and Eddie is getting freaked about the Bat coming.

"There ain't no Bat." Oh really? lol.

It is indeed the Cathedral belltower, seen from above.

Yes.

The film is bookended by this location.

I always thought he was standing on top of the cathedral too. But what's more curious to most critics is what he was doing standing there instead of preventing the mugging in progress. My answer to that would be that Batman was unaware of what was happening until he heard the woman's scream. As shallow as it sounds, the landscape he was watching from above is rather big. He can't see everything happening in advance.

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

Here is the image.  It sure looks like the cathedral, there also appears to be gargoyles.

From that height and position, there's no way Batman would have seen the mugging of Jimmy, Harold and his wife. I think the implication is that Batman heard the mother's scream which prompted him to investigate.
