Batman Forever Comic Adaption

The adaptions are always interesting, not because they're identical to the movies, but because of the artistic liberties taken with something we know so well. While I'm not going too in-depth, I'll just make some quick observations on key differences.

Two-Face's puns were actually a lot worse. Like when he started singing "We Are the Champions", I was actually thankful for the toned-down version we got in the movie.

There was actually an explanation for the Batman items that weren't destroyed by the Riddler. There was a secret cave beneath the Batcave. This was pretty cool, as opposed to just having the Batwing, the Batboat, and the Sonar Suit just happen to survive.

Unfortunately, one of the weaker points was explaining how Bruce survived Riddler and Two-Face's invasion. Two-Face indeed knocks him out cold with a shot to the head, but no reason is given for why he's spared. Two-Face is actually seen holding a gun to his head after, but then they leave... and are surprised and disappointed when he's still alive. The film actually handles it better with intentionally sparing him, so the Riddler can relish in his victory.

When Robin steals the Batmobile, he just comes back without any fuss. Then again, I never really got how he took it in the movie with Alfred there and all. You think there'd be some kind of theft protection.

One funny scene that wasn't in the movie was Riddler and Two-Face literally getting high with the box. Two-Face makes a quote about Jim Morrison being right about... everything. It's great.

Riddler also presents Batman with a riddle during his final death trap, I liked that aspect.

The alternate ending of movie, with Batman and Robin watching over the city looks great with the full background. A really cool way to bring it full circle.

I might do a full comparison of the movies vs. comic adaptions similar to the comic influences articles sometime, starting with the '89 movie.

Years before the release of the Batman Forever 2005 dvd the only way I could ever see the "cave underneath the cave" scene was in this very comic and an all too brief photograph in the movie's official souvenir magazine. I expect I wasn't the only one filled with joy when we all finally saw that nearly 10 years back? However I think there was a little more to the sequence as one moody photo see's Bruce and Alfred with flashlights examining the wreckage around them. There is a more visible sight of the destroyed Batmobile also.

The concept of a second Batcave is still there in the actual movie though. There's that staircase Robin comes down from above. So it all still works.

What is strange about the comic is that even though the Batboat is seen alongside the Batwing, the Batwing is the only mode of transportation seen heading to Claw Island which then turns into the Batsub (but which looks more like the Batboat!).

Robin comments on Claw Island's metal ground and Batman fills in the history of the place which is good stuff, but ultimately I prefer the tribute to Burt Ward Chris O' Donnell utters in the film instead lol It's marvelous.

As a kid I never knew what the hell Two-Face was talking about when mentioning Jim Morrison. Wonder if this scene was ever shot? I also still don't know (or how to pronounce) exactly what they are saying when speaking in, is it French? Now there's a mystery we should solve! Or is it all just gibberish?

Another moment added in the comic is Riddler drugging Chase with a big ass needle jab. But this moment really was shot. See the movie's 1995 official magazine for an actual pic of Jim Carrey with the vicious looking device. No surprise why that chopped that moment.

It was painful enough watching the original getting mangled in Batman Returns.

On a sidenote, I originally thought the Furst Batmobile made a cameo in the cave under the cave, but it was really just the top of the Batboat. Got me thinking; would've been a cool cameo.

What was that riddle about?

"What is without taste or sound, all around, but can't be found?"

Batman answers 'death'. Not sure if he gave the wrong answer, or Riddler just dinged him because it wasn't in the form of a question.

I always wanted to see the Nygmatech base being built. Ive heard that there is a sticker showing Nygma with a sledgehammer helping the builders. anyone have a image of this?

If you mean a photographic trading card, not that I'm aware of. I could only find the screenshot of him hosting a press conference to Nygmatech's grand opening.



If you mean the comic adaptation, I'm afraid all we see is Dick Grayson training at Wayne Manor while a TV telecast of the conference is playing in the background.

What the hell scene was that supposed to be from anyway?

I forgot where I heard about this, but I believe it's from the original ending of the "Teach me how to hit a guy" scene.

In the current cut, Riddler hits the guard and yells "Ow!"

I believe the original ending was that right after that, Riddler grabbed his cane and bashed the guard's head and then laughed about it, like on that card.
