Best movie taglines of all time....

Here's something fun: name what you think are the best movie taglines ever. Here's a few off the top of my head:

"In the shadows of Gotham... death wears a smile and hope flies through the sky in black.... but only one will claim the night." (BATMAN, obviously unused)

"He was never in time for his classes... he wasn't in time for his dinner... and then one day, he wasn't in his time at all." (Back to the Future)

and what I think is the best, bar-none:

"In space, no one can hear you scream." (Alien)

Have at ye!
"There's just as much room for the television series and the comic books as there is for my movie. Why wouldn't there be?" - Tim Burton

Alien is obviously the best. Still gives me the creeps just reading it. I have to say I have a soft spot also for "The Bitch is Back" which accompanied Alien 3. That developed it's own mini subculture even getting spoofed in Casper!

"Be afraid, be very afraid" I like from The Fly. "65 million years in the making" is very classy from Jurassic Park. More cryptic and spooky for me as a kid was "Something has Survived" from sequel The Lost World. Although I was miffed as to what exactly that something was and how it did in fact survive when I saw that in 1997???

I also really like "The Bat, the Cat and The Penguin". Great little bit of alliteration. I don't really remember seeing it at the time but still just having the white bat logo and this tagline was hugely exciting. You knew immediately what it meant and who was appearing. In some sense why would you even want to see a trailer after reading this? Better to let the imagination run wild.

For childish nostalgia it's "Hey dudes, this aint no cartoon!" (which Super Mario Bros also stole for it's "This aint no game" tagline) or "Lean, green and on the SCREEN!" from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. Oh man how thrilling that was when I was a kid jumping into live action. And doing it the proper way, good ol Jim Henson puppetry magic not lame ass cgi.

To go beyond movies slightly (although it kinda still is) and because I'm a massive Dr Who fan I always loved "He's back...and it's about time". Shame it couldn't have been on a proper movie though.

No tagline discussion would be complete without "You'll believe a man can fly" from Superman. I believe they had totally secrecy on the effects back then so that must have got the adrenaline going somewhat. And the prize for the most unintentionally funny? "This time...it's personal!" from Jaws The Revenge.

I always liked the tagline from Westworld (1973):

"...Where nothing can possibly go worng."

Not a fan of the movie really - the original is by far superior - but I love this one from Predator 2:

Silent. Invisible. Invincible. He's in town with a few days to kill.

"Part Man. Part Machine. All Cop." - Robocop (even though I can't stand that film anymore).
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

great idea for a thread!
I'm just going to post taglines, you can guess which movie it's from

"Imagine having to win over the girl of your dreams... every frigging day"

"synchronize your watches, the future is coming"

"just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water"

Only one will claim the night (unused)

The man with the hat is back... And this time he's bringing his dad.

He's having the worst day of his life... over, and over...

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

Love Never Dies

Believe in Angels

As it's Halloween some more creature feature based taglines to identify I find effective.

"Bill Murray is back amongst the ghosts...only this time it's three against one"

"Sleep all day, party all night. Never grow old, never die. It's fun to be a vampire"

"If Nancy Doesn't Wake Up Screaming She Won't Wake Up At All..."

"In October of 1994 three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary...A year later their footage was found"

"The Master of Horror unleashes everything you were ever afraid of"

"The night HE came home"

And of course (the most pop culture based of all probably) simply "Who ya gonna call?"

The last is not a tagline but a freaky sounding narration that always gave me the creeps. Easy to identify where it's from. It should have been the tagline really: "The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre"

Quote"Bill Murray is back amongst the ghosts...only this time it's three against one" - Scrooged

"If Nancy Doesn't Wake Up Screaming She Won't Wake Up At All..." - Nightmare on Elm street

"The Master of Horror unleashes everything you were ever afraid of"

"The night HE came home" -one of the Hallowe'en sequels

Some ones I really like include:

"See it before you go swimming." - Jaws

"One Vicious Killer, One Relentless Cop, Ten Thousand Bullets" - The Killer

"Size does matter." - '98 Godzilla

One of the worst I've ever heard is "Titans will clash." from the Clash of the Titans remake.
