Trailer here:

Will be interesting to see how it's like with Shane Black taking over in directing duties.

I'm curious how this take on The Mandarin's going to go.  Back in 2008, I would never have guessed that the character would be played by Sir Ben Kingsley with an exaggerated American accent...
That awkward moment when you remember the only Batman who's never killed is George Clooney...

I think this will be interesting. Kingsley looks very impressive to me, even though the voice was a little odd.
Why is there always someone who bring eggs and tomatoes to a speech?

The hero's lair getting destroyed. The hero getting absolutely belted by the villain. Eh. I'm over this type of thing. There's a lot of other ways to increase the danger and threat level without resorting to these measures, which aren't much fun.

While I find myself agreeing with you on that, I still am excited by the trailer. I hope the movie will deliver accordingly.

Who, here, is an Iron Man fan as I am ?
"Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread."

Certain actions demystify the character and his world. I like main characters being set back (Penguin's framing of Batman in BR), but not to the extents I listed. Writers are seemingly trying to be 'epic' and 'all out' these days. Where do you go to from there?

For example, I see the batcave as a no-go zone sanctuary and prefer it when the writers respect that. I can handle the 60s movies' treatment of the Penguin coming into the cave. That was tastefully done.

But when the place is totally destroyed - as a fan I don't want to see it. If it hurts you emotionally and strikes too much of a cord, why watch it over and over? I'd rather celebrate and enjoy the character and his environments.

Writers are acting like this is the only way to be dark and escalate the threat level. To bash the hero and destroy his lair. And their way isn't proving to be much fun at all. "Iron Man 2's villain wasnt much of a threat, so lets have him destroy everything!" :-\

I get it completely and agree with you.

Cool.

From what I've heard about MOS (one aspect anyway), this type of thing is becoming something of a trend.

Poor ol' Supes is too invincible and we need to connect to him more. So what are they going to do? You guessed it...

Just out of curiosity, how would you go about making SuperMan connect to us, the viewers, more ? Certainly, the Batman being a human being with no superpowers, is a more relatable character.

Do you think audiences "connect" or "relate" more to SuperMan or Iron Man ?

The nolanites seem to be claiming this trailer copies Nolans. I dont know whether to roll my eyes or agree with them.

Watching the trailer I couldn't help but think 'dark knight rises' I'm praying it doesn't because I like seeing RDJ to act smug, cocky, and arrogant as Tony Stark (we have enough uber-serious heroes out there). I'd imagine there'll be some of the tony stark we're used to, he's clearly on a kick after the avengers. Also we know they can't kill off Iron Man so it wont be another nolanite rehash. Unlike DC, Marvel seems to embrace the fact that they are bringing comics to life.

If Shane Black brings a similar style as he did with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, we're in great shape here. I'm praying everything goes right because this is an important movie for Marvel; after the avengers the next logical question is "how do they go back to solo movies" and the prior solo movies especially iron man 2 are now being tagged as extended avengers trailers.

I just got back from seeing this. My verdict – it was pretty good. I'd give it a solid 3½ out of 5. Not as good as The Avengers, but definitely an improvement over Iron Man 2. Downey carries the movie as you would expect, but Shane Black's script also deserves some credit. The overall feel is somewhat similar to the old school action movies of the eighties and nineties, with many of the action scenes revolving around a gun-toting Tony Stark rather than a suited-up Iron Man (this worked for me personally, as I was never really convinced by the CGI Iron Man costume in these films). I won't say anything else about it now because I don't want to spoil the plot. But it's worth seeing if you're a fan of the franchise.

And if you do see it, make sure to wait till the end of the credits. Hint, hint.
