Burton's style

Just thinking about this the other day, I really have to give props to Burton for his direction of this film. From his shot selection, lighting, sets, costumes, motivation of the actors, I think he really did a fantastic job. This is one similarity I found between him and Nolan, there is a sense of realism, especially when there is filming on location, actual stunt work, on set special effects, set construction etc.

Burton was key into making this film the classic it is today.

He's alright.

Better than alright  ;)

Burton nowadays is a bit like Metallica.

I hate those sell outs.

Burton is still my favourite film maker. Dark Shadows rejigged my love.

You know, stuff like Alice "hurt" more if you've been a hardcore Burton fan your whole life. Despite the financial success, that film made him the laughing stock of several people that know about movies, to the point of having them "erase" or write off much of his past work. This hurts if you genuinely love his films.

I haven't seen Dark Shadows yet, I admit the trailer made me experience feelings similar to Alice, but I'll give it a chance. Unfortunately, it has already generated some negative feedback, and looking at the bigger picture (independent of our personal opinions) it might further hurt his current reputation.

I agree to an extent with the critics in regards to AIW, but not with Dark Shadows. They don't get it at all. It's a film I'd go to war defending.

I saw in the film's thread you promised to write in detail for the film. Can't wait for your review.

I did say that. But at the same time I'm wondering if its worth it. I did that big BR novelisation review and only 3 people replied in the thread.
