Some actresses' names have emerged in relation to The Dark Knight Rises, inclusing Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weitz.  Although no characters have yet been announced it has been speculated that two female leads will be cast in the sequel, one a possible love interest, the other a villain.

Here's a link to the announcement:

Personally, I have very mixed feelings about the names mooted, although I suppose they generally fit Nolan's 'real world' aesthetic more than the type of actresses I'd prefer to see (i.e. a Basinger or Pfeiffer type).  Nevertheless, I am curious to hear what these two female roles might be.  With any luck, one of them will be Catwoman.
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

It's a sad day when a good looking woman is not permitted because of "realism".

Realism all too often becomes blandness.

Charlize Theron gets my vote if she's still in talks.

Incredible actress.

I wouldn't call any of these women an eyesore ;D

Well, judging from the previous movies, the male casting choices in the Nolan films are always the most interesting. And I prefer it this way - one can see a parade of gorgeous girls in other Hollywood films, I love that Nolan has nothing to do with this kind of fanservice :)

Yes, but a lot of those other Hollywood films are simply bad, either crude comedies or two-dimensional thrillers that I refuse to watch.  Burton's Batman films are great movies that happen to feature gorgeous actresses, and besides, isn't the comic-book world (or at least DC's as opposed to Marvel's) meant to be larger than life and therefore, feature 'perfect' people?

I suppose to Nolan's credit his film does feature the best-looking Bruce Wayne out of all the big-screen movies, and Harvey Dent was also a 'pretty boy', but where are all the glamorous women?

Theron would be a great choice Joker and like Basinger, Pfeiffer and Kidman, she's a beautiful, glamorous woman who is also an accomplished actress, arguably much more so than a few of the names on Nolan's short-list.

There are a few actresses there that I enjoy, but none of them jump out at me as being the perfect choice for a Batman film.
Why is there always someone who bring eggs and tomatoes to a speech?

Seriously, why on Earth can't we see them in Nolan's Batman films as well?

What is unrealistic about a human female born with jaw dropping good looks?!

Superhero Hype is reporting that Nolan has now updated hi shortlist for the female roles in the DK sequel: http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/113633-actresses-on-the-shortlist-for-the-dark-knight-rises

I feel this is a slightly more promising list than the last one, but even more intriguingly one of the two female characters (a villain and a love interest) is said to be Talia Al Ghul.  I'm not sure whether she will be the villain or the love interest (more likely the former), since she is essentially both which might indicate a possible love triangle.

Talia Al Ghul makes sense since Nolan has for the most part concentrated in introducing characters that weren't used in the previous Batman films, and her story would link directly to Batman Begins brining the film series full circle.  The only thing is I can't really see any of the short-listed actresses fitting that particular role.  Really you need someone with a more exotic quality.

I only just found out about 'Batman News' (http://batman-news.com/), the regularly updated Batman 3 site which I know many others on this site have occasionally referred to.  Apparently Eva Green and Naomi Watts were rumoured to be up for roles in the film a few days ago, presumably as Talis Al Ghul and Vicki Vale respectively.  If that was the case it's a huge pity IMO if Nolan et al have decided to look at other actresses for those pivotal roles since I think Gren and Watts would have been near-perfect for those roles.  Green has the exotic, femme-fetale quality Talia Al Ghul requires, whereas I can see Watts easily essaying the role of the 'good girl' reporter.

On another plus side both actresses are proper women, not the little borderline-anorexic girls who have also been linked to roles in the film (I'll leave you all to guess who I mean by that).  I'll be honest, I don't see Knightely, Hathaway or Portman (who is now thankfully out of the running) as possessing the right qualities for Vicki Vale, and especially not Talia Al Ghul.

Yes, agreed. Green would be good in any role, and I would welcome her casting.
