I always had the impression that the soundtrack was qwerky and frantic. The CD reveals some somber stuff.

Yeah, agreed. "The List Begins" is a perfect example of what Returns was going for, IMO. The transition to the Batcave cue. Restrained, less identifiable as The Batman Theme, and adding in more mysticism, especially with how it ends.

There is amazingly good balance. The Triangle Gang theme is absolutely unleashed at the beginning of track three. Totally zany, but demented. And after that light on its feet melody, it ends mysteriously and sadly ? the moment Batman stares and walks off. It walks a fine line but never really crosses it.

I?m glad this release unearths more of that carnival sound throughout the entire length of the score. Joining zany and poignant themes together, without breaking the tone, is quite a feat. But it works.

So um, no instrumental version of Face to Face, huh?  :'(
No. I don't think such a thing exists. And it's certainly not in the film.

Funny, how I never realized the lyrics were in the background of that scene until just now.

Well, even if an instrumental version doesn't exist...it should exist.

I finally got my copy of the 2 disc editon of batman returns now im working on putting on youtube for those who don't have it wish me luck

Please don't.  I worked hard on that album and don't appreciate having it given away.  I'll go so far as to have YouTube delete your links.  If you like these kinds of releases and want them to continue (and want nice people like me to afford the rent) you'll respect that giving these things away will inevitably kill the industry you seem to enjoy.

Thank you and have a happy new year.

Neil
