A simpler way is to just turn the color setting on your TV all the way down.

I just watched Batman in black and white. Pretty interesting, almost like seeing it for the first time again. And aside from when the Prince music plays, it really could pass off as a movie from the 40s or something.

Indeed. I think that's another reason why Returns would work a lot better in black and white.
