BATMAN LEAP - Scalextric

Does anybody remember (or even know about, cos not a lot of fans seem to know) that company Scalextric made a Batman racetrack based on the original Tim Burton movie?

There were two versions: a "BATMAN CHASE" variant with a much smaller and simpler racing track and BATMAN LEAP which had a larger track and even a jump section for both cars (which were the Anton Furst Batmobile and a Joker porsche car).

I received the LEAP version one Christmas from my dad in a fantatsic box (with superb Anton Furst style artwork of the cars complete with spooky Burton era Gotham background art!). I still own it in it's original box and with all accessories in fine condition. I've recently tried researching it's history and value and was wondering if anyone had any information on it's production whatsoever?

Somebody recently sold one on Ebay and it seems the LEAP variant was never ever sold in the US. But it also seems as I say very few fans even know it was made. To anyone who enjoys the Christian Bale era racer trust me THIS 1989 one is more cooler! Any help discussion would be great. Will try to locate pics too. Cheers.

A quick google revealed this airbrush painting (the pic is from here) It was sold for 340 GPB

I think this is the actual box

Beautiful packacking art, this looks like a nice collectible.

The bottom one is mine and the top is the smaller "Chase" variant.

I always remember the jump in my version could be quite a pain if the speed of the cars was not executed properly. But it was enourmous fun to play. I noticed in the newer Scalextric sets the cars seem a lot smaller. But this Batmobile car is quite a collectible in itself, it has all the detail you'd expect. I wouldv'e liked the Joker car to be more "movie based".

There is also a starting grid track that is engrained with the 1989 Bat logo.

I think another set was done for Batman Returns but by a different company. This one came with actual set pieces from the film such as the Artic World hideout and Gotham City backdrop. It was much smaller however.

Probably they used a Porsche because they already had the sculpt from other car sets they made. Toy manufactures always used to cut corners, didn't they? (Like Kenner taking a Toy Biz Penguin and recoloring it for their Batman Returns line)
