Cripes, I'll be honest, I hadn't really noticed that.  But it's true, I've never seen a credible take on Nicholson's Joker.  He's the only one he's been able to convince me.  Everyone else just can't.  Lathrop says that being able to do a credible Nicholson impersation is part of it but that's just the tip of the iceberg in my mind.  There's more going on than "just Jack being Jack".

Even that YouTube guy's parody of Joker's interrogation and his home invasion of Wayne's penthouse actually did a pretty credible job.

That being said, I don't think Nolan intended the Joker to be a deep, nuanced character.  He was a force of nature unleashed on Gotham City, not an actual character as such.
