Watched this for the first time and didnt realize how many deleted and alternate takes there was in this. Really wish more would come out for this film. I wonder if they were working from a work print and WB cut was done pretty last minute?

The only thing I can say is this wouldn't be the only time Warner Butchers would hastily put together a cut at the last minute.
QuoteJonathan Nolan: He [Batman] has this one rule, as the Joker says in The Dark Knight. But he does wind up breaking it. Does he break it in the third film?

Christopher Nolan: He breaks it in...

Jonathan Nolan: ...the first two.

The way I have heard that it works is that certain designated footage is selected for promo materials such as trailers, music videos, etc. This normally happens relatively early on during post-production. The footage is sent out to various production houses and they incorporate the footage into whatever materials they produce on contract.

However, inevitably there will be little differences that pop up because post-production continues on the movie after that footage has been submitted to whoever needs it. Those other production houses may also do post-production of their own on the footage. Hence, there might be glimpses of deleted scenes, alternate takes, different camera angles, etc.

Regarding the music video itself, there was a time when U2 seemed to declare war on it or something. Because finding the complete, unaltered video on YouTube was next to impossible. Apparently, something changed at some point because the OP links to what looks like the complete unaltered video. It's still exciting to watch it now too.
