Indeed. I'm well aware of what forum I'm on but I think a lot of Batman fans like it best when Superman is made to look small so that Batman can be made to look awesome like in those g***amn Facebook memes. But when both characters are written properly and according to character, Superman fans mostly don't have a problem with their depictions and interactions.

Batman fans... less so...
I can see where Superman is coming from but that doesn't mean I always agree with him. In some ways, I find his viewpoints represent the do-gooder/PC brigade. Do I care about the civil liberties of assassins and drug dealers? No. Are the public living in fear? Yes, but I'd argue that's largely because the assassins and drug dealers exist.

So that can raise my ire at times. To be completely honest, I believe the world needs more of a Batman approach to the world rather than a Superman one. Today we seem to be more focused on clamping down on people seeking to right wrongs, or people speaking truth, rather than clamping down on the real villains out there doing the murders, burglaries and rapes.

The Western world is fixated on morals and how it is perceived by everyone at large. How to clean up a problem without getting our hands dirty, or trying to have our cake and eat it too. Was excessive force used on the crim during his arrest? Were racist or homophobic slurs shouted at the crim and does he/she have grounds to sue? Will their prison cell be warm enough and will high speed internet be available, because, you know, human rights are universal.

But that doesn't have to be a negative on Superman. If anything, that makes him more of a tragic character. He's desperately longing for a world where everyone gets on, where nations don't exist and it's just a world of people living as one. But the dream will always remain a dream, leaving Superman unfulfilled but nonetheless, undeterred.

I think Superman is a concept character. The strong man curtailing his power. Being a servant of humanity rather than a dictator. The alien who is perhaps more in touch with humanity than most humans. He can see how things could and should be but humanity isn't willing to take that journey yet. Superman doesn't want to overstep his mark.
