Whats with the photoshopped image?

I noticed this while looking at the Bluray at BJ's (now $12.00 by the way)
Look at the first image of Batman in the line of photos in the middle of the back


Why did they but Batman (horribly) out of a Black picture and put him in a grey background?

That shot of Batman was already cut out wrong on the Special Edition DVD.
The gray was more muted there and didn't blend to shadows on the left.

I guess they just wanted to make Batman's silhouette more distinctive, but ended up making it look pretty distracting.
Changing the contrast of blurring the background would have probably been the more elegant approach.
