I ran across this and thought this would be a fun list to debate.

Keep in mind this was written in 2008, so no Watchmen or X-Men Origins: Wolverine appear on the list.  I like the fact that the author here included the major movies and didn't keep it to a Top 10 list.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and my only major gripe right off is, Dick Tracy and The Rocketeer are not on the list.  I would have included them along with the graphic novel movies as well.  I'd like to hear what you all think before I add my two cents.

I haven't seen all of these movies, but for the most part I agree with him.

I found it interesting he doesn't even try to say who is the best Batman. The most he does say is Michael Keaton isn't the best Bruce Wayne. But even that doesn't say he's not the best Batman.
In my opinion Michael Keaton is the Best Batman, while I like his Bruce Wayne, he comes across as absent minded.

What was wrong with museum scene, I thought it fit the Joker perfectly.
It was a moot point to let Vicki into the Batcave, she already knew by then.

The Penguin as a Jesus figure? It was God the Father who killed the firstborn on Passover, not Jesus.
Edit: Or was that the point the reviewer was making?

Those few points aside, I liked his reviews.

Interesting list, but what was so bad about Hellboy 2?   ???
Johnny Gobs got ripped and took a walk off a roof, alright? No big loss.

One thing - why is Vincent Perez where Brandon Lee should be?

I was wondering the same thing Ral.

I was actually gonna post this in the random stuff thread, but saw The Spirit the other day and my god, what a waste of such a potential franchise. Nonsensical plotting and dialogue, only decent part was when The Spirit flashed back to his childhood with Sans Serif.

What a waste!

Agreed.  I've never been the biggest fan of Frank Miller's work to be honest.  I've often found his work borderline fascistic, nihlistic and possibly misogynist (although it's also arguable that his male character-types are as reductionist as his female ones).  Nevertheless, I rather enjoyed the movie of Sin City, which was aesthetically appealing, well-paced, and surprisingly well acted (particularly with respect to Bruce Willis and Rosario Dawson); so I was more than prepared to give The Spirit a chance when it came on TV despite the absolutely rotten reviews that accompanied its release.  However, give or take a little eye candy the film is as abysmal as its reputation suggests.  Incomprehensible plotting and a haphazard tone which leans towards broad, intentionally dumb 'comedy' result in an exceedingly poor film.

For the best way to deal with such 'retro' comic-book material Dick Tracy shows how it should be done (hell, even The Shadow and The Phantom were miles better than this trainwreck).

I wouldn't call the Spirit a train wreck. I just think they needed to get it away from Miller. I thought the broad humor was more in keeping with the quirkiness of the Eisner originals, but was a poor fit with the Sin City look.  I thought Halle Berry was bad in Catwoman, but Eva Mendes is officially(in my book anyway) The worst female performer in a Comic Book film ever! I liked David Newman's score alot, and I thought Gabriel Macht did a decent job with the material he was given.

In short I enjoyed the film overall, but I would hardly call it the worst comic book film ever(*cough* Ghost Rider *cough*)
Why is there always someone who bring eggs and tomatoes to a speech?

Yeah, the guy who played The Spirit acutally did a decent job with what he was given. It's a shame, this sould have been his launching point, for a fruitful movie career.
