This is stunning! Amazing photos!

I'd kill to see that set of photos from the third visit. Too bad they've never surfaced.

I'm worried actually. As an Batman lovin' adult it's gonna be a cool flick but I don't think that it'll be a movie that I'd want to take a 12 year old kid too and that makes me a little sad.

I think it may be a a little too "dark and twisted" for it own good, I think the worse than that I think it may be a little to complicated and "political".

The cool thing about Batman 89 is the simplicity of it all. There was enough intrigue and story stuff to get an adult on board and take it seriously but everything was bold, simple and fun enough for even the most hyper, suger infused kid to have a good time.

A ten year old kid playing with an action figure of the new two-face will be a surreal experience to say the least. Now little Timmy can relive his realistic portrayal of inner turmoil and angst at home! Woo Hoo!

Jack's Joker was tragic and scary without being realistically twisted.

That said I'm super excited to TDK myself but I'm afraid they are gonna miss out on hitting a wide audience. Batman shouldn't be taken away from kids in my opinion ( and kids shouldn't be spoken down to as well! A tough balance!)

I was 11 when it came out too.

I remember thinking I was getting away with something when I saw it since the film was rated pg-13!

My main memories however come from the christmas afterwards when I got the tape of the movie. I'd watch that damn thing everyday for the next year.

I even have a crystal clear recollection of the commercials that came on before the movie started! Kids playing baseball PSA, a diet coke commercial, and then bugs and daffy duck trying to make you order a WB catalog.

Them were the days.

Here is a weird one.

It never made it into the movie but it was in the script!

EXT. A DISPLAY WINDOW--EARLY EVENING OF THE CURRENT ERA

A Batman logo fills the frame with a portentous soundtrack
boom.  A playful salvo of snowballs reverberates against
this image as the logo is revealed to be a hanging center-
piece in the display window of a store that sells Batman
sleds, lunch boxes, T-shirts, and ticking-to-twenty-
     before-Seven clocks.

and

An ALL-AMERICAN DAD holds up a bowed Batman sled to an
ALL-AMERICAN MOM.  An ALL-AMERICAN SON rushes up causing
All-American Dad to exaggeratedly hide the present behind
     his back.

and

A STRONGMAN COVERED IN TATTOOS emerges out of the box to
slam the All-American Dad and swipe his Batman sled,
which Strongman then uses to hammer down Santa Claus.

and

     EXT. BEFORE THE DEPARTMENT STORE--NIGHT

Oblivious, Selina rushes out with Max's speech.

A TRIO OF SCOWLING BIKERS buzz her to the ground.

The Batman sled crunches against a frosty police wind-
shield.  A disgruntled COMMISSIONER GORDON sputters out
     into his radio.

                             GORDON
What are you waiting for?  The
               Signal!

This prop was made for the production by Rick Gamez- http://www.freewebs.com/ricksprops/index.htm

Also on his site is the Penguin Baby Cage.

I don't own these props but thought it would be a good place to post them.

I'd say that Batman 89 is slowly transitioning from just a  Batman adaptation into a classic film of it's own right.

I think in few years you may see stuff done for it like you would Alien or Robocop is now. Multiple movies and interpretations for those two characters but that doesn't stop collectible makers from revisiting them.

The 89 Batmobile has seen a big resurgence in the last couple years as far a new collectibles go. A few years ago, a repress of the classic 89 Bats and Joker in a two pack was released in an 89 styled packaging. Also the most recent Lego Batwing is a dead ringer for the 89 Batwing.

I think 89 will find it's footing as a cult film like many of it's 80's movie counterparts and will eventually get further memorbilia treatment.

HOWEVER, as long as new Batman movies, comics, and cartoons keep being made the likelyhood of them focusing on 89 based product diminishes. The product maker's attention is filled with too much new concept to allow them to revisit the "classics" perhaps.

Kinda like how the Reeves superman character is mega Iconic but no new stuff gets made.

The fact that there are amazing figures for some incredibly obscure and quite frankly terrible movies amazes me.

These are so cool that I wish they didn't have to be religated to the "merchandise" section. I normally hate forums with too many sections but maybe an "making of/ production/ prop" section might be appropriate.

Video Games, action figures, beach towels and the like are merchandise but production artwork and props are part of the actual building blocks of the film.

Of course what would go into the "main " forum? A tough call.

Just my 2 cents.

Batman (1989) / Re: Our first interview

Good to know they made it into good hands!

The original poster is kinda neat. The girl image itself is based off of a classic George Petty illustration of a "Cat-Girl" pin-up. And most interestingly is the fact that it's made on photographic paper! 80's era graphic designers didn't have the easy access digital printers that us modern folk have and to resort to such solutions when short runs were needed.
