I'm in the middle of reading this book. about half way through and it's a fascinating read so far. obeys the batman ethos mostly with a few slight sociological twists and obviously the main theme is child abuse.
brilliant read so far. powerful story and the imagery and writing style is excellent and very evocative.

anyone else read this or have any thoughts on it?

Heres the blurb:

In the heart of Gotham's darkness glows the cold garish neon of the sex industry, the feverish eyes of desperate drug addicts, the streetlights creating shadows in which muggers patiently wait. This is where Batman's most personal—and most savage—battle begins. And where he must confront a vortex of violence so profound that those who survive lose their souls.

Here the night-rider must reach deep within himself to summon the superhuman strength he needs to fight the most vicious and remorseless enemies he has ever faced ... those who traffic in the flesh of children.

In a compellingly written fantasy novel, bestselling author Andrew Vachss brings his razor-sharp talent to one of the most legendary characters of the 20th century—The Batman. While aiding a social worker in her crusade against child abuse, millionaire Bruce Wayne uncovers a shocking revelation about his childhood and his transformation into The Batman—knowledge that nearly destroys him.

my point was i don;t like batman & superman mixing especially because the whole point of batman is he is a mortal man (who lives in the normal world) who decides to fight crime. in a one-off justice movie okay i'll accept that but not in a batman film- it's silly.

Yeah there were a few parts of the dark knight returns which were musically great. the music in this scene is great.

i hope the next batman series has something like this- keep the joker in it until the very last film. sorta like this one .. and then kill him off. although the superman thing> BIG NO NO. (but thats a debate for another thread).

yeah i loved some of the music in gotham knight. particular in the final 3 parts towards the end.

and some of the visuals of gotham were great in that aswell

which of the 2 iconic theme tunes do u prefer. if one why do u prefer that one.

for me i can't split them. both are fantastic and IMO very different reasons. I love how dark and eerie the elfman theme tune is- very in accord with the burton movies. but the zimmer theme tune is more epic sounding to me (for want of a better word).

both r 10/10 IMO but for different reasons. i'd sorta prefer the zimmer theme played if it was a car chase or major action set-piece type scene and the elfman one played at the beginning and other major parts of the movie.

what do u think?

I love Batman! He is the only superhero that someone could actually be. You can't be superman he is from another planet, you can't become spiderman no matter what spider bites you, you can't become aquaman because humans can't breathe underwater. But, with enough training and money you can be batman. How much money and time do you think it takes to be Batman?

MONEY? TRAINING?

IMO you could have some REAAALLY cool NOIR effects in the cave which has been posted above. via the use of glass, ultra-sonic beams, lenses waterfalls etc,,,

some really freaky/cool distorted images of him looking gigantic/normal-sized whilst walking through the cave. just to sort of disorient and freak the audience out.

He's too similar to Nolan for me. I'm not really thrilled about the thought of more Nolan-esque Batman movies.

what type of movies would you like?

more in the mould of burton than nolan OR just a completely fresh approach?
