Beautiful stuff GB, but what you're building is the 1992 DC Comics "Old Gotham" from the Destroyer story.

The skyline in Nigel Phelps' original charcoal drawings looks completely different, the Grissom building and cathedral tower are nowhere to be found in the 90's comics. According to the editors, they weren't permitted to replicate any prop or building exactly from the films, or they gladly would have. They commissioned Phelps to create a new Gotham for the comic book. Burton wasn't interested in the police perspective or the Wayne corporations, hence why the locations were never designed for the movie. In every old publication related to the movie and indeed the Academy Awards graphics when they hand a pair of Oscars to Peter Young and Furst to recognize the work of the film's art department, it is always these rougher, cruder drawings made for the movie. Old Wayne Tower wasn't created until 92 and now all these misguided, half-baked Anton Furst tribute sites have everyone believing they were just using unused concept art from the movie or proceeding under the assumption that Furst drew it all because of publicity photos/video showing him adding detail to a finished Axis Chemicals drawing.

Batman (1989) / Re: Batman's chin
Wed, 11 Sep 2019, 16:19
No chin appliance, but yes they had endless fittings to achieve the kind of effect on his neck/chin skin that they wanted. It's just being jutted out unnaturally.

At times they put aluminum plates in strategic places in the cheeks, possibly under the chin to keep the cowl's shape.

Some people have called into question the lack of puffy lips in this photo before, but it seems unlikely they would've put one of his three doubles on display in a well lit publicity shot with Nicholson. It could be the way the light is coming down on his face or the blurry quality of the old photo scan itself. This is purely a publicity pose, doesn't match up with the way its staged in the film with Joker's frizzy hair and everything.

Any chance of getting a re-upload of these pages?

God it's far worse than we could've imagined. They took what they already had and somehow made it worse. This is why I hate simultaneous/box set releases, total sacrifice of identity for constancy's sake. The white skyline at the bottom of their packaging has nothing to do with the cities in any of the movies. The streaming versions at least bothered to get the Burton cities right.

I'm sick to death of bat-logos used over and over again for this movie's cover. Time to open the archives of photoshoots and do some restoration. Every movie in the batman series has its own identity, why not reflect that on the covers.

So how long before street date did Warner wait for a press release announcement for Donner's superman 4k? Did they release it in the fall because of the theatrical release date or for stocking stuffer reasons? When they did 30th anniversary Beetlejuice showings they ignored that it was originally released in spring, capitalizing on spooktober, increasing the likelihood of attendance.

Looks like a composite of old photos from this moment in the alley. So far the only official cover to be based on Hot Toys was "Return of the Caped Crusaders" which was pretty embarrassing. The Batman vs Two-Face followup had a cool original illustration though. These are old streaming/itunes things like said above, whoever made it just turned the 2005 typeface orange. The superman 4k cover used a vintage style logo.

Don't get me wrong, objectively the panther is a far superior version of what Keaton wore in the original. But that's the thing, it's just another generic sculpted muscle body batsuit like most Batman figures. I'd much rather see Kilmer represented with the sonar suit, which is actually supposed to be nipple free. Even when Returns came out Kenner didn't bother updating the toy molds to have ab plates and thigh seams. What is this fear of the more amor-like costume from Returns? Or is it laziness? I'm sick of Mattel and NECA just putting out Catwoman and Penguin. Hot Toys only put out their figure after damn near a decade of fans twisting their arm with daily hate mail and memes after they initially abandoned the idea.

I'm highly disturbed they attempted this before trying a Returns suit figure. I'm sure the lack of nipples is intentional.

Batman (1989) / Re: Diet Coke or Pepsi?

I remember reading a that technician left his pepsi can in the Batwing wreckage as a joke to see if anyone noticed, maybe it wasn't so random. Dominoes Pizza famously won the bid to be in the Ninja Turtles movie yet the VHS opened with a Pizza Hut commercial.

Really admire them for doing a angry sewer onesie version too, very brave.
