Question:
Which do you prefer?
Option 1: Batman (1989)
Option 2: Batman Returns
Alright, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here, but hopefully it'll provoke some discussion.
What is you favorite last shot from the two Burton Batman films?
Both feature the camera rising upward above skyscrapers.
We have the heroic shot of Batman standing on top of the building, looking out across the city with the bat-signal switched on.
We have the shot of Gotham City taken from a height, to which Catwoman rised from to look at the bat-signal being activated. (Funniliy, there's no building or balcony for her to stand, so she essentially is flying)
Both are similar, but which do you prefer?
I voted for the BATMAN final shot (hey, I like seeing Batman in a final shot the most, in this case), even though I still love Returns' end shot, as well.
Love 'em both....but I like the Batman (1989) shot a bit more.
Batman has a great final shot, the best for the Batman IMO and easily one of the best final shots in any film I have ever seen. Batman Returns was excellent as well. You could have included all Batman films because I think TDK had a worthwile final shot and believe it or not I liked the final shot in BF where Batman and Robin are running towards the screen in the shadow of the batsignal...but hey that's probably just me.
I chose B89, but by a very slim margin.
The finale of B89 never fails to give me chills. I love the bells tolling before the end credits.

Exactly. And that image of Batman looking at the Bat signal is spot on to the way he does it in the comics. Awesome way to end a movie.
returns it was a perfect ending :D
I choose 89' because it shows Batman is there for Gotham that there's hope for the city yet, its a happy ending esp with Danny Elfmans music. While Returns had a much more sad ending showing how alone bruce is.
returns. of course becaue i love catwoman so its just kewl but plus when i first saw it i was sad cause i thought she was dead and then they showed her and i got excited. lol.

Me, too! It still brings a smile to my face! ;D But has anyone else noticed how short Batman's ears are at the end of B89??
BTW this is my 1st post! :D

Let me be the first to say welcome to the site, Rob the Goon. Glad you've boarded ship, as this site is where it's at for Batman films. ;D
Welcome Rob - yeah his ears are too damn short!
hi rob.

Are they really, though? Surely they used the same batsuit from the rest of the film.

If you look at Batman's head up close, the ears on his cowl appear to be longer than when looking at them from a far view.

It's just the composite effect making them look smaller.

Thought it'd be something like that.
The last shot of 89. It's simply iconic. You have Batman standing on a ledge watching over Gotham with the Bat Signal shining. Danny Elfman's score just adds to the awesomeness of that final shot. Best way to end a Batman Film.

No doubt about it! 8)
The last shot of 89 is probably the most iconic shot of any superhero/comic book film of all time! ;D
I picked '89 because of the music that went along with the pan up the buildings/final shot. Simply, epic!

Agreed.
Guys, I can slowly feel the tide turning....I think I may be prefering Batman89 over Returns.

Traitor (just jk)! :)
Batman 89 for me too.
That was as Batman as anything could be. Magnificent last shot, music etc.
I've always enjoyed Gordon reading out Batman's letter to the press.
"Please inform the citizens of Gotham that Gotham City has earned a rest from crime. But if the forces of evil should rise again to cast a shadow on the heart of the city, call me."
Nice piece of dialogue there.

BRAIN FADE!
:D
Yes, I mean Harvey.
I know how that feels. :D
Anyway, gotta love the music in this scene. Very triumphant.

I couldn't have said it better myself if I spent an hour trying!
