Title: Would Have Kevin Conroy Made A Good Live Action Batman?
Post by: Kamdan on Tue, 12 Aug 2008, 04:33
I think so. After viewing him in an episode of Matlock and Dynasty, I thought he had the right physical presence of the character. Along with his vocal performance from the animated series we all know and love, he could have pulled it off. He also was a Juilliard School graduate. You can't beat that.

Hey didn't you post this somewhere else?. I swear i have read this post word for word on a different website?.

Anyway as for Kevin Conroy he does make a great voice Batman but i just haven't seen enough of him to say he would make a good live action Batman.

I think Darrell already posted it here once, with minimum response.
It's a very interesting topic, though.
I myself didn't know what to think of it, as I haven't seen much of Kevin Conroy outside some featurette interviews.

He has a brilliant voice, but I'm not sure if he has anything else to warrant a live screen portrayal.

I think the reason the two Batmen (Keaton/Bale) worked on film was their psychoesque and obsessive portrayal of the character. This is the reason I don't think Conroy could work. He has an excellent voice, he is also fine from a physical point of view (a bit tall, 8'1'' - 1,83 m according to imdb and has leading man looks, judging by some photos), but it's a question if he could fit for this kind of "obsessed semi-psycho yet smart guy" thing we got from the 4 movies. He looks more like the clean-cut and straight heroic type.

I met him a while back. He's tall and was in pretty good shape. He does have light hair, but then that didn't stop Kilmer.

He could've definitely pulled it off, as could Mark Hamill (Joker) in a live action movie.

Not that it'll ever happen...

LOL Hamill could've never done that neither could Conroy, give me a break!

Well Hamill played "The Trickster" in The Flash TV show a while back.

Haven't seen those episodes in ages though but I recall him doing a decent job.

Not saying either would've rocked the role like Bale/Ledger, just that they could've pulled it off.

I love that episode, and that show alot also but his acting was a little too over the top and he's never had a really good acting range other than the Star Wars films, he's an ok guy and I love his Joker voice for BTAS, but other than that, NO!

What's a Trickster?

He was a made up villain for The Flash tv show that debuted in the early 90's and only lasted I believe a season or two, if you look on youtube you'll hear Danny Elfman did the theme for the show too, which was badass.

I personally loved that show alot, and cant wait for christmas to get the box set!

Actually the Trickster was in the comics long before the show came about.

Still a Joker ripoff mixed with The Riddler!

I don't know if that's a fair assessment. There have been plenty of characters like that over the years. Superman has The Prankster, for example.

Theyre all a ripoff in a way to me, plus Hamill used his Joker voice alot in that episode too, to me its just too close for comfort.

He also used that voice in the Spider-Man show.  Not flaming you but are you suggesting Hobgoblin is a Joker rip off too?

For whatever it's worth, the animated JLU version of the Trickster visually resembled the 90's Flash TV version but seemed to be it's own version of the character... and he was voiced by Hamill again.

I always thought Hamil's Hobby had too much gravel in his voice to be a Joker copy.

well to each their own my friends, thats just how I feel. Hammils Goblin didnt sound anything like his Joker to me, but his Trickster seemed very close.

Ok, so I came across this clip of Kevin Conroy on an old episode of Matlock. It's from the 80's so he's obviously aged considerably since then but I think it proves my point that Conroy could have made a pretty good live-action Batman.

If he was a well-known actor before BTAS, we wouldn't even be having this debate.

Good find PS! All he had to do is color his hair dark and he'd be all set!

Conroy maybe could have pulled off the role around the late eighties when he was involved in shows like Tour of Duty, however other than that I don't think his acting career ever made it too far off the ground. That isn't to downplay his success, I just think he probably fits more inside the world of voice work then actual fleshed out acting.
