Question:
Which Keaton Batsuit is your favorite
Option 1: 1989 Batsuit
votes: 20
Option 2: Batman Returns suit
votes: 15
Pretty straight forward I think. Which of the 2 Keaton suits is your fave? For what reasons?
I love the sleekness and sharpness of the Returns cowl, and the overall look of the armor. However, by far the 89 suit is my all time favorite. It has a badassness to it that just looks like it would strike fear into someone. There is a raw, roughness to the design that it gives it a more believability that someone could actually manufacture it themselves. It also has a more animalistic organic look that gives the illusion of a giant bat.
a tough one cause i love the design of the returns suit, but i think it is too perfect for something that someone has build themselves. The original has a rougher look, less glossy, more like the skin/fur of a bat.
I think the Batman'89 suit is ok, but the Returns suit is my absolute favorite! A great sculpt, I loved the industrial sleek chest piece as opposed to the abs in the '89 suit, the cowl fit much better with the mouth piece actually fitting and I also prefer the normal yellow oval to the one used in '89 that had two extra legs on the bat.
I like the 89 suit because it?s the first movie suit BUT the returns is far better because it for one looks like armour and the slick design of it makes it look more practical and the returns cowl JUST ROCKS, the lines and definition on it are so much more cleaner and defined.
I am probably gonna get laughed at for this, but what was the reason for the 3 pronged tail on the 89 emblem? I had always thought it was a copyright issue or something.
My favorite is the 89 Batsuit because the 89 movie is my favorite and the batsuit looks more awesome then the Returns batsuit but I do like the Returns batsuit.

::GASP:: :o
Sounds like we need to upload an article on this.lol
I do believe I have something somewhere on this bit about the symbol. When things get launched Ill try to locate it and load it up.
If I had to choose between those 2 I would say "The 89" suit.
But, Adam West's suit was the best Batman...ha ha! :D
both great but the 92 suit is more streamlined - looks like he could do more in it - and on that note the new suit in dark knight looks far too like a motocross outfit - the black on black emblem is barely a factor anymore which bugs me - the cowl looks like a weird helmet - gets all narrow at the neck so he looks like his head is too big for the rest of his body - and they've made the whole mouth area look weird by shrinking it so much
wonder if gotham city will look like some weird version of thailand again
ehh
I like the way the 89 suit looks more home made, like something Bruce did make in his cave. Sometimes I feel a sleek suit removes the reality a little. However, I do love the Returns suit.
As for the new one, I do agree that it is a little motocross looking, but i like the idea that Bale can move a lot more now. I think that the Begins suit was the most combersome one of the lot - the cowl was too big.
I love both, but the original one from 89 gets the first place for me. :)
B89 suit without a moment's contemplative hesitation. In BR, Bruce saw reason to go techy... although that reason is far from apparent to the viewer. I don't have a problem with this, per se, but my philosophy is: If it ain't broken, don't fix it. B89 was far from being broken in style... what we have is a muscle suit that is reminiscent of a creature... as in when Bruce Wayne puts on that suit, he's not just putting on armor, he's putting on a creature... and becomes that creature! ;) The goons in the movie were even doubtful that he was an actual man. It wasn't until they got an up-close look they realized, yeah, that's a guy in body armor.
The '89 suit for me.
i never even noticed when i first saw it. i was showing my girlfriend the new photos and it caught my eye.
The BR suit and B89 logo don't mesh well in my mind. :-\
I like the Returns suit better.
Big ask i know but does anyone have a link or somthing so i can see the two suits side by side or somthing similar?.
I prefer the suit in the original. I don't know there was just something about it. It was more threatening looking.
The Returns batsuit is the best of all bat suits in history
It is my favourite bat suit of the 1989-1997 era.
I like The Dark Knight suit. I didn't like it initially, but it looks great in the film in my view.
In this new design, the bodysuit is now broken into multiple pieces of armor over a more flexible bodysuit that is dipped in liquid titanium, for greater mobility and strength. The cowl of the bat suit, which in previous incarnations had been attached to the shoulder and neck, is now a separate component inspired by the design of motorcycle helmets, allowing the wearer to freely swivel and move his neck without moving the rest of his upper torso.
The blades on the sides of the gauntlets are now retractable; they can also be fired and be used as ranged weapons. The chest bat emblem is smaller than the one in Batman Begins and it is the same design as seen on the bat signal and film posters. The gloves possess hydraulics for Batman to crush objects.
This new bat suit also has "sonar vision" - where signals emitted by mobile phones are converted into images in a similar way to sonar. In order to view these images, white lenses fold down from the cowl to cover Batman's eyes. However at the end of the film, the technology used to create this is destroyed, as Lucius Fox views it as immoral.
I agree that the Returns suit is the best-looking. The whole shape of the mask, the nose, the eyebrows and the ears look simply incredible in the film's cinematography as well as the photo-shoots.
IMO the Dark Knight suit is not as visually striking, but it gives the impression of a "practical" Batman, a Batman that "could work". This suit makes him almost a black-ops agent that just happens to have a cape and two pointed ears on his mask/helmet. It's more "realistic" in the context of the film.
Here's a picture of The Dark Knight suit. Remember, it is bathed in full light. It looks more effective at night, of course.

Agreed. Its simplicity is its major asset.

I did think it looked a little too shiney in some pictures.
B89 by far
I'm mixed. I like the streamlined elements of the Returns suit, but I don't like the armor aspect. I like the muscle armor of the B89 suit, but the head looks a little bulky. So I guess I like them both ;)
Same with me. I think that the 89' Batsuit has the better body armor. Returns is a nice batsuit, but not as nice as the 89' suit.
Here's my review of the batsuits from 1989-1992:
BATMAN: 10/10. The first non-leotard superhero suit & the first all black batsuit. That's just revolutionary. I love how it's simplistic but yet looks frightening. I can't spot any flaws. Definitely iconic & a classic! :D
Batman Returns: 11/10. I love how it looks like armor rather than a muscle suit. It adds more to Batman being called "The Dark Knight". The cowl also looks very menacing. Overall, I love how it's elaborate but isn't over the top like later suits b/c the color scheme is perfect. ;D
Anyone noticed that Burton's Bat costume is a mirror image of Neil Adams'?

Look at the pic above and picture it black.
- Same length of ears,
- same shape of the cape in the front (like a tent opening),
- the cape connected to the cowl,
- the cape hanging in the front while standing still,
- same belt and logo.
- same shape of the cowl (even from the back),

I like both, but I just love Returns more, the cowl is just so sharp and clean, but also menacing and scary in the dark, just a great suit
I agree, they were definitely looking at Neil's work for inspiration.
This is a tough choice, I prefer the more armored look on the Returns suit, but I don't like the look of the material, the slickness. I guess they want the light to catch better on it, but I hate that. And from then on the suits stayed about that shiny, with exception of some of the shinier Schumacher suits. I definitely think the Returns cowl looks better from behind, the way neck thing lays on the shoulders and everything. Also, they took away the shielded gauntlets, which I love. The gloves look really "empty" without them.
And then there's the boots. I really love the original boots, they had a great tough look to them, the buckle and shin guards looked super badass. I don't like the Returns boots at all. And I actually prefer the original emblem to the more traditional one. Something about it seems a little off to me, I'm not sure why.
So ultimately I have to go with 89, mainly due to the gloves and boots. And there's just something about it's imperfections, and raw beauty that I just like. My ideal suit would be a cross between them.

The slickness of the material was essential. Both suits reflect their respective films. With B89, we have an earthy, gritty feel. Rough and ready. The cape resembles literal bat wings, and the chest emblem looks mean. That's the tone of the film, especially with Gotham City. BR overall has a sleek feel to it. Winter and Catwoman contribute to that. The suit - (with clean chest logo) and Batmobile reflect that as well. Having the B89 suit in BR wouldn't gel. And vice versa.
1989 but returns was good i like 98 for the bat symbol
