Title: Batman batsuit
Post by: Batman88 on Wed, 12 Sep 2012, 11:58
I really liked the Batsuit in Batman & Robin and thought it looked really cool. I thought Clooney looked great in it.

Anybody here like it as much as I do ?

I've also got a question for you guys: why was there no yellow in the Bat-logo on the suit ?

I've even bought this poster recently because I think the suit looks so cool (I also bought character posters of Keaton in Returns and Bale in Dark Knight) : http://cache2.allpostersimages.com/p/LRG/49/4916/7MW9G00Z/posters/batman-and-robin-george-clooney.jpg

I'm rather fond of it myself. I chalk the MIA yellow oval up to wanting the suit to look different from the BF suit.

possibly Schumacher wanting to do something different with each film. It would have been interesting to see how the next film would have played out if it were green lighted; he wanted to make fear a central theme and the early design for the logo would have been a yellow one. I'm not sure how much the colour yellow would have played in but in DC comics the colour yellow is quite often associated with fear; likely coming from the green lantern/sinestro.

Do you gys like the Clooney/Batman poster I purchased ?
So, had pre-production work started already for the third Schumacher Batman film ?

Depends what you mean by pre-production. It never got green lighted, but there were strong enough scripting and casting rumours including the likes of Jeff Goldblum, Madonna, Howard Stern, and Kurt Russell.

Ignore the bat nipples and cod pieces and George Clooney definitely has the look for the bat.

I can't remember but didn't a lot of the casting rumours come out before B&R was released?

What do people think of these suits?

I don't think they're bad. They remind me of medieval knights. Don't you guys think ?

Overall, though, I prefer Kilmer's sonar suit which he uses in the final act of Forever.

I don't like some of the styling of the Clooney suit. It looks okay in motion but I would've liked the bat symbol to be a roughly approximate size of the other suit he wore through most of the movie. I like the monochromatic color scheme and thinks it plays even better alongside the same types of suits for Robin and Batgirl.

The downside though is that the silver flares are a little obnoxious, esp on the biceps, forearms and thighs. I also seriously don't understand the texturing on the temples of Batman's cowl.

I suppose I can see the logic of the suit in the context of the movie and that comic panel - having more white to blend in with the frozen background. But that idea only goes so far. The suits are what they are and at least Schumacher had the confidence to go ahead with such an unashamed in your face look.

Kilmer's sonar suit I like better than those but what I do like about them is that they remind me of medieval knights, kind of. Don't you guys agree ?

I take it no one thinks of those suits the way I do.

if nothing else this film had great visuals. Also the teaser trailer for the Schumacher films were both excellent; the bat signal surrounded by a question mark and the frozen bat logo.

I remember I loved the sonar suit in the first publicity pic I ever saw, back then.

The ice suit literally looks like a Kenner action figure with silly colour patterns, like e.g. Polar Blast Batman etc.

The other suits in the Schumacher films look fine (if you remove the nipples). Robin's "Nightwing" suit in B&R was nice too.

While looking at it now I tend to think they're a bit too shinny and stiff looking, I've always had a soft spot for the Forever Sonar suit and Robin suits. Its the first time we got the big black Bat sans yellow oval in live action (I think at least) and I'm also pretty sure this is the first time they've showed Robin having gauntlet fins like Batman, a looks that's now been carried over to the comics.

That kind of irked me at the time but I came to like it, actually. It at least made sense for Tim, the ultimate Batman and Robin fanboy. Of course he'd want a costume that mixes design elements from the Batman and old school Robin outfits. Fits the character. Somehow, that rationalization retroactively nullified my quibbles about the fins on the Forever Robin outfit. Because I'm weird.

Didn't like Clooney's suit at all. It was the begining of the end for the yellow chest oval and since then it hasn't returned. Batman's suit should always be black on screen. It's just better.

Did like Kilmer's suits very much. In fact the black one he wears for most of Batman Forever in my opinon is far better than Keaton's Batman Returns grey/black suit. It's truer to the original movie and far more spectacular looking to me than anything Bale wore too. The sonar suit was good because it was different and right for a new type of finale. Story wise there was also a reason for him to actually wear the thing (with all the Batsuits having been destroyed except for this one prototype) unlike the snow suit gear in the next film.

Remember that publicity pic too. The costume looks more blue than silver in that making the duo look more like a modernised Adam West and Burt Ward. Like it or not those tributes to the tv series Dynamic Duo is what got audiences excited in 1995.

I recently bought this poster and had it framed : http://cache2.allpostersimages.com/p/LRG/49/4916/7MW9G00Z/posters/batman-and-robin-george-clooney.jpg

I know it's from the most maligned of the Batman movies, but when I was a kid and saw that image I fell in love with it and it still kind of resonates with me all these years later. I, too, know Batman & Robin is the worst of them all because it purposefully made fun of its title character, but that poster image (and all the other character posters that advertised the movie) are part, for better or worse, of my childhood.

Besides, I think it's a cool poster  ;D !

well one thing all Batman movies have in common is solid work with the posters, promo artwork etc. The Returns posters are still the best, though.

I really like the cover of Batman & Robin's comic adaptation, I wish I could find a hi-res version without text to turn it into a bluray cover.

That's a really great cover, SilentEnigma ! You know, I check the forum every day to read the new posts and all the things you knowledgable Batman fans know that I don't and I always find your posts to be terrific to read and I personally agree with the way you see the Batman character.

I also bought Keaton's character poster from Returns, I'll have it framed soon.

Do you like that Clooney Batman poster I bought and framed ? What do you think of it ?

I don't think it made fun of the characters. I think it's light hearted and family friendly taste was not a popular approach for fans.

:)

Well, I like the PlayStation game, and it's this picture of Clooney that serves as the boxart. I even have the Prima guide (which is filled with comic artwork by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez) which also has this image.

(https://www.batman-online.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-snc6%2Fc0.0.403.403%2Fp403x403%2F223888_113426055472732_697303269_n.jpg&hash=ff7fa262e046a31510831695d1dee8b450edf904) (https://www.batman-online.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fecx.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F516XT7YDA3L._SL500_AA300_.jpg&hash=e3a5077ffb4c02e62668f99111aadbe881b085cf)

Needless to say, I'm quite used to it. If I had that extra space for a "bat-room" (or bat-cave!) filled with merchandise, as I've seen others do, I would certainly have a few Schumacher posters hanging alongside Burton's and Nolan's. But, I might be the only hardcore fan that doesn't have a single Batman poster hanging in any of the apartment walls.

I'd love to have poster-sized prints of Furst's beautiful concept artworks - THAT I would frame.  :)

Have you noticed that in the OnStar commercials, the suit from B&R used there was repainted black and has the yellow/black oval emblem on it? I'll show you a pic of it:

It does look cool, though I like the absence of the yellow in the emblem of the Clooney suit.
