Personally I love Prince's soundtrack.
I have a question though, were he and Elfman working together during the scoring/song writing process?
Not to my knowledge. Woulda been great if he did. Obviously he worked with Siouxsie & The Banshees on "Face To Face". Which BTW I LOVE!!! I can listen to that over & over & not get tired! I actually found the single which had one remix, not to bad. Also found the single in a rare Uk 12" Vinyl Picture disc, which hangs on my wall quite nicely :)
Let me read thru my press kits. They have sections on the music and production. Ill se what I can find out.
I just went thru my press kits and read thru all the notes on the both the score and soundtrack. Nothing is said about them collaborating on their respective parts.

but there are similiarities to Scandalous and certain themes in the movie.
Plus were certain songs required to be of a certain tempo so as to run into each other?
ie. the precusor to Attack of the Batwing and Prince's Trust.
Danny Elman used notes from Scandalous when composing the prime Batman theme. So in a sense, the two musical artists interfaced.
I thought the Prince songs fit the scenes perfectly, I never got why the movie got criticized for it. I mean, Joker dances to the music while doing silly stuff or crimes in comics, so what do you think hes singing and dancing to? Pop music I would guess, party music for a party time, right? Not a fan of Prince but those Prince songs from 'Batman" fit their moments plus they arent heavily dated like a straight on synthesized 80s pop music wouldve been
I still listen to the Prince Batman stuff regularly, I wish they had used "Feel U Up" and non soundtrack song "Cream" in Batman Returns. It fit the kinky tone of the movie.

Prince is a TDKR fan yo.
I'm a huge Prince fan, Partyman is my favorite from his Batman album. I also like Vicki Waiting alot.
The prominent use of Partyman and Trust in the film doesn't bother me at all. It's music played by the Joker, no other explanation needed. If they were played by any other character, I would question it, but it's too perfect for Joker. The other songs are barely noticeable.
Also, I love purple...

There is certain themes in the Elfman soundrack which have the Scandalous theme in it. Scandalous was composed by John T. Nelson - who is Prince's Dad. So I'd say the collaborated on this at least to work it into the score.
