WHEN AND WHERE?!?!?! I want to come!
It's in Wichita, KS.
Darn it! That's like 4 hours away!
Well I hope you have a great time and I, along everyone else will want to hear all about it! And please let us know if they are giving away any programs or other free stuff. And as Joker always says, "Take your camera!"
Have fun!!!
I'll get my bro to take a picture of me below the theater. I promise you it won't be flashy. I wish I could have a picture of me with the film print, but that won't happen! I'm gonna try to see as many times as I can (4 for in all).
Awesome Darrell. Have fun and let us know how you get on.
Lucky sonofa.....

Great one Darrell! I look forward to your pic. Will you be dressing up per chance?
Such a fortunate soul you are, can't wait for my chance to see it on the big screen.

Nah... but I will be sporting my Batman t-shirt. Now, if I only had one of those Warner Bros. ballcaps to go with my popcorn and soft drink tonight.
Damn you're lucky, soak in every minute of the expierence and have fun!! 8)
I look forward to what you have to say, Darrell.
Seeing Batman on the big screen must surely be a totally different experience.
That sounds really cool, they haven't celebrated the 20th anniversary in the UK. You're really lucky, hope you have a great time :)

Eh, I suppose so. (I'm jealous)
Well, I must say that seeing my absolute favorite film on the big screen was truly gratifying! I was quite nervous at first because the movie was playing in one of the theaters that had also had digital projector and would show their older movies with a DVD, thus ruining the whole theater going experience. BUT, when the previews and bumpers and came up, I knew it was going to be a film print, as I was promised! That sure was a relief! I kept going, ?SHOW THE MOVIE! SHOW THE MOVIE!? Must have been what everyone was saying back in 1989, not caring about the previews. Then? IT STARTED! And It sure was a film print! I was in heaven. I kept a huge SMILEX-induced smile on my face throughout the whole film. The movie?s picture quality was JUST RIGHT. Not too dark or too light. It was EXCACTLY the way I wanted to see it. I don?t why people complained that the picture was too dark back then. If anything, when the movie came to home video, THEY made it darker. The audience was really good for the movie. I thought there wouldn?t have been that many people, but it was a good crowd. They all were laughing at Nicholson?s antics and the Knox?s jokes and just having a ball. I had always wanted to see an audience?s reaction to the movie and I got one! I think seeing a movie in a theater puts your perspective of the movie in place better. Like, I noticed why there were complaints about Batman being hardly in it and The Joker having all of the screen time, along with just how RADIANT Basinger was in the movie, MUCH better than watching it at home, EVEN on Blu-ray. I was thinking about checking it out again tonight, but sitting through it twice at 9:00 PM and 11:35 PM can burn you out for a while, so I?ll stick with two. I hope EVERYONE OF YOU will one day have the experience that I had. You?ll never forget it?
Great stuff darell, I remember hearing and reading about people's experience watching this film, not only from '89 but from other viewings in recent years. It's great that you had a fantastic time. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and I must say I can't wait for my turn.
"Does it look like I'm joking?" ;D
Here's some pics. I did say that it wouldn't be that spectacular. My pics of me under a marquee for Superman: The Movie was the bomb! Enjoy!

Aliens in the Attic! Cool! ;)
Seriously though Darrell, nice report. I was also fortunate enough to see Batman Returns on the big screen at the South Bank Centre in London a couple of years ago during a Tim Burton Retrospective. Like you, I had the pleasure of watching a favourite film of mine on the big screen for the first time amongst a crowd who were similarly laughing at the comical moments, and were thoroughly engrossed the rest of the time.
Good report Darrell.
Awesome Pics, dude! I'm really rather envious.
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
That's great! Wish I could have been there! But if you have the opportunity to go again, go for it! Perhaps not tonight, but soon!

It's kind of a "one-off" kind of deal. But, if it were to return, I will gladly go again. For now though... courage.
AWESOME :D
Did it feel like seeing it for the first time?
Great stuff :) I wish the rest of us have the chance to see it like this (again!)
How would you compare Batman (1989) and The Dark Knight in terms of cinema experience, Darrell?
I think Batman (1989) would be better, myself.
Elfman's rousing music and Burton's visuals would just be magnified that much more on the big screen. 'Decent into mystery' would be amazing especially.

Kind of. Seeing a film and a video of a film is quite different. Like I said before, things are put in better perspective, like noticing just how much The Joker stole the show.

I thought so.
Batman Returns on the big screen would also rule big time.
Congrats Darrell! You're a lucky man!! ;D
I am very excited at the moment, folks.
I have just found out that there is a Batman (1989) and The Dark Knight double feature tomorrow at a cinema near me at 6.30pm.
I'm there!
I've been wanting to see this film on the big screen since a child.
This is sure to be an amazing experience.
Excellent :D It's great to hear that some people who never saw the movie in theaters finally have a chance.
We got a lucky one here! And no, I'm not crazy with envy. No, I'm not. ;D
Cool stuff TDK...
...pictures?
Yeah, where are the pictures? We need pictures! Get Vicky Vale on the job!
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( no 89 in my neck of the woods yet...

Not long now until I go. As for pictures, they may have a Batman (1989) poster hanging up somewhere I suppose.
Hopefully they have a poster up and "Batman" in big bright lights ;D
Just got back a little while ago.
I?m not going to give a review of the film, but merely give my thoughts about the cinema experience.
The excitement was just unbelievable. I had not seen the movie on DVD in a while. Alright, maybe a few weeks. But I could only imagine what an epic this movie would be on the BIG SCREEN.
When you're watching the movie at home without the benefit of an audience, you view it in a slightly different light. With an audience present, Batman (1989) goes to an entirely different level.
I recall I said that seeing the Burton films on Blu-ray was like seeing them for the first time. Well, tonight I saw Batman (1989) for the first time. No other viewing experience compares.
Everything is magnified. Most of the sets are stunning and the locations look gorgeous on a huge canvass. Elfman?s score loudly sweeping through the cinema is spine tingling.
Batman (1989) is a better film and film experience compared to The Dark Knight. This movie has heart, soul and an atmosphere that cannot be replicated or beaten.
As the credits rolled, the audience rose for a standing ovation. I?m proud to be a Burton Batman fan at the minute.
Awesome.
Big crowd present?

Big crowd present?
Not a spare seat. Lucky I got there early!
Standing ovation...? This must have been the icing on the cake.
Great stuff ;D
Cinema audiences over here in Ireland are fairly backward and don't clap when a movie ends.
The only time I saw it was the fly-over at the end of Superman Returns.
I'd definitely be cheering for Batman on the big screen.
THIS... on the big screen... and the music... How could someone NOT cheer??? ;D

That's the way it is where I live, which is in the U.S. I've never had an audience clap or cheer at my local theater. Well, actually there was some clapping at the end of Star Wars Episode III, which boggled my mind.
@The Dark Knight: I'm sooooooooo jealous, glad you had a great time seeing Batman on the big screen. I hope have that opportunity some day.
Excellent stuff, The Dark Knight! I forgot to mention that my audience clapped at the end of the movie. I got another question for you. Was it just me or did The Joker's suit look more blue to you?

Now that you mention it, it sort of did.
Has anyone here seen Returns on the big screen? If so, what was that like?
I saw Returns as a Burton retrospective a couple of years back. It probably wasn't the same as your experience Dark Knight since it was at the British Film Institute and the audience was mainly comprised of the 'art house' crowd (i.e. generally more subdued than a typical movie audience). So, to be honest the experience didn't really replicate what it would have been like to see the film on the big screen in 1992. Still, it was a great opportunity to see the film in the best forum and format possible. The audience were obviously already fans of the film and were evidently enjoying themselves (although there were no cheers/ clapping at the end unfortunately :(). It was also gratifying to see how many laughs the film garnered since I've always considered Returns to be a black comedy of sorts (although obviously it's still very much a great action-orientated 'Batman' film too).
Incidentally, I think I've only been to one film in which the audience clapped/ cheered at the end. I'm trying to recall what it was, and I think it may have been Superman Returns at the IMAX cinema or the recent King Kong, which is interesting since both films were considered to have underperformed at the box-office.
Thanks for the reply.
The time did finally roll around for me to see Batman (1989), so I hope I get to see Returns, my favourite Batman film, one day. And when it does, I will savour it that much more.
